You're correct. Works/is cool with me. And makes sense. I just thought Leif wanted to start us in some Invincible Overlord's city...but I am not overly familiar with Greyhawk.
Yeah, as to that, I was looking at placing City State of the Invincible Overlord on Flotsam Island, which territorially is a part of the Hold of the Sea Princes [in the world of Greyhawk], south of the Kingdom of Keoland and southeast of the Yeomanry. Bordered on the southwest by the Hellfunaces mountian range.

Like I said, that's what I'm thinking, but nothing is carved in stone (or even harddrive) yet.

The City State will most likely be a Free City and independent from the Hold of the Sea Princes, but will just as likely be paying a hefty sum to them for the independence and for protection by their Navy.

This Midsummer's Day Observance that I mentioned which is our leading candidate so far to bring all the party together for the first time, will be held on Fairwind Isle just to the east of Flotsam Island.

The World of Greyhawk -- Hold of the Sea Princes

Langages commonly spoken here are: Common, Olman, Amedi, Keolandish, and Halfling. The offical language of the government here is Keolandish. (I've found some info on this region online, but I'm not sure that I like it. Probably best for players not to assume that I'm following any known treatment of this setting, published or otherwise. All I'm saying is that the leaders of the Hold of the Sea Princes are not often seen, and there have been whispers about the Scarlet Brotherhood being seen with them. Nothing has been confirmed.)

Thanks! He is proficient in both. I never really looked at how different they really were. Plus, the Footmaman's Flail is cheaper! :)
And the footman's flail does more damage vs. Large opponents [2d4] than does the footman's mace [1d6]. Both do 1d6+1 vs. Small and Medium opponents.

Also, I hate to see you use both of your two starting weapon proficienies for two melee weapons. The only missile weapon with which clerics can be proficient is the hammer, which only has a range increment of 1/2/3, and only does 2-5/1-4 damage, but it's better than nothing. On the plus side, a hammer only costs a single gold piece.

Rhun: Turthain might be a friend of Shiyana's from her elvin parentage? (I haven't really thought/decided yet on whether she is Half-elf from her mother or father)...or if you want to be somehow related directly (a cousin? First-removed? A half-sibling?) or just another "protector" sent with Shiyana to this large "City-State" of "Men"?

We can work that in. Shiyani might get an elbow in the ribs if she starts talking about their past in front of others, though...I see Turthain as the type that tries to be mysterious. He likes to keep people guessing.

You could just say the game takes place in Leifland. Then you don't have to worry about anyone making assumptions. We know that place is all jacked up! :)

Liefland, for the win! All hail the Land of Leif!

As for a familial relation between Shiyana and Turthain, how's "uncle" sound? But I won't tell anyone ;) and probably not likely to bring it up since it makes her seem..."weak" or "young" (which, obviously, she still would be compared to him.) But she doesn't want to draw attention to that fact in mixed company ;) She's striving to be a strong, independent woman, though her time in the greater "world" is obviously limited. She wants to portray herself as confident in her abilities and true to the precepts and superiors of her mystic order.

I looked in my Deities and Demigods and found that I don't have the printing with Melnibonéan Mythos, but I did see that a copy was posted already.

I had never noticed this before, but my copy still has a thank you to Chaosium Inc. for permission to use both Cthulhu and Melnibonéan Mythos even though both of those are not actually there, weird.

I wouldn't mind playing some 1st edition again some day. Thanks for the memories, heh.

Cool, looks like the game's shaping up nicely.

I'm still deciding what type of character I want to play. With a cleric, druid, ranger, and fighter/magic-user/thief, there's no major gap to fill. I'll figure it out soon...:p

You get the best part!...Any class/multi-class and race you like! (and have the ability scores to produce! ;) )

Look forward to seeing you in Leifland! lol.

Oh, and regarding my posting schedule, I'm a Jr. High teacher so my schedule is sort of all over the place. At certain times (like report cards) I might as well fall off the edge of the world, but otherwise I'll be able to post throughout the week and on weekends. I'll make sure to give as much notice as I can though when something nasty and time consuming is coming down the pipe though.

Also I'm posting from MST so I'll probably be posting later in the day than most of you guys since I think I'm the farthest west.
