Part of the solution of course is the use more low CR enemies since they remain mathematically relevant. That being said, I will be on the lookout of solutions to you guys' CR problem.

My only issue with that is you start to bog down combat and the power of fire ball shoots up.

That's why I'm very happy with these monsters now available on DMs Guild. If they turn out to be well designed, they will fill a much needed niche for me. The D&D Denizens and D&D Citizens offer at least somewhat higher CR humanoid foes. The Monster Mausoleum offers higher (mid-levels) CR undead.

Here is another product I bought that is Pay What You Want.
Monster Expansion by "Scottomir" Metzger, tentatively 5 out of 5 stars.
(Tentatively because again, I will only truly know how well designed the monsters are and how accurate the challenge ratings are when I use them in play).
This has a variety of more powerful versions of beasts such as a great cave bear or greater tiger with higher CRs, and also a couple more powerful versions of each, kobolds, goblins, hobgoblins, orcs and trolls, and a couple more powerful versions of undead (wight king and dread wraith). The trolls include some interesting versions, not just more powerful, including the cave troll, stone troll, forest troll and mountain troll.

I am just wondering, why all the focus on free or hardly paying for anything. I see the average $ for most PWYW is okay though. Which is good. Given we are part of the community, can't we be a little more generous when downloading? I mean, what is a $ here and there for other people's time?

Anyway, it is great to see a decent review thread for the articles full stop. It just rubs me a little wrong when you read how many people are downloading for free. Hopefully most go back and give a little for what they like.

I know Bandcamp works like this, but I could never give less than $1 per song for eg. Or at least a $5 EP or something like that.

I am in Australia, so I feel your pain, but still a pound/dollar/euro/whatever or 2 is not really much in the grand scheme of things. I don't mean to threadjack and this might be better in its own thread, but I am a little dismayed that people would not want to give some compensation to others for their contributions.

I don't think any thread is right, Connorsrpg.

You can't impose your view on monetary value on others.

If a product is variable cost, with zero the lower bound, then zero is a perfectly acceptable amount to pay.

That's really all there is to it.

Fair enough, let's leave it there. I am not here to pass judgement, but to encourage people to go back and reward our fellow gamers if you think it is worth it to you :)
