D&D 5E [5E] How to Spend 1 Million Gold

First Post
Ok, to start off we are all level 7, Paladin (Strength) , Wizard (Aberration) Rouge (Swashbuckler) and an NPC Fighter/Barbarian/Rouge. Now we came across 1 million gold and secured it, and are at a cross road what to get with it. The Paladin wants to be a wall, but would like to pass saving through without much problems. The Wizard has the capabilities to raise skeletons, but would like to increase his survivability and combat control. The Rouge(Me) is a skill monkey, and i can stealth at a +10 without much issues which has caused alot of problems for creatures but recently found my soul being sold soooo would like to find more ways to become dangerous with added survivability. The NPC we would like to add some things but not a whole lot but would like the NPC to make the difference.

Now we also are going to buy a Sky Ship, and have accounted the costs for the ship, hiring the crew and monthly costs. But if anyone has any ideas that we may of not thought about in the Skyship area please let me know.

Hi, I'm a Mindflayer, but don't let that worry you
Build a stronghold and retire. No adventurer would continue to risk his or her life after achieving such wealth and power. What more could they possibly achieve?

Darn. In that case, it really depends on what your DM allows in the way of crafting magic items. If you have access to magic items, then...

The Paladin would probably like a Mantle of Spell Resistance (advantage on saving throws against spells).
The Wizard might like a Ring of Protection (+1 to AC and saving throws).
You might like a Cloak of Displacement (melee attacks against you are made at disadvantage).

I believe those items are all rare in quality, and they are among the best magic items in the DMG.

You could also trick out your ship with ballistae and other siege weapons, or buy another one... perhaps a whole fleet if they're readily available.

1 million gp... at roughly 5 grams/coin, that's five *tons* of gold.

Hire some dragons? With that kind of money....

... of course the dragons might just *take* your gold ;)

Hire an entire college of gnomes to build you a quantum warp drive and jump to a parallel universe where the world isn't coming to an end.

Unless you need the money to help stop the end of the world, I'd suggest you leave it where you found it. Secure it as best you can, then stop the end of the world. Once that's done, you can go back and use the wealth to rebuild (with yourselves at the top, of course).
