Tranio is thrilled at the prospect before him, and Steps forward for whatever they may encounter. He briefly contemplates the feeling of falling from such a great height, plummeting towards the ground. That would be exhilarating, he thinks.

Dren eyed the slavering hill giant and then the tall Zephyros. “Your former master?” he asked. He tried to recall what he knew about giants and this Ordning Zephyros mentioned.

History: 1D20+2 = [9]+2 = 11

“Cheer up, young one,” Dren tells Carolina as he falls in beside her and mounts the cloud stairs. “It seems we ‘ave found ourselves in an adventure.”

Dren: You recall that certain races, giants included, enforce strict caste systems upon themselves. Your dwarven tutor explained that the giants refer to their social structure as an ordning, but the rest of the lesson went in one ear and out the other.

Aremus: You recall that the ordning was not created by the giants themselves, but rather a cruel god known as Annam The All Father. Starting at the bottom, the caste goes sub giants (such as ogres), hill giants, stone giants, frost giants, fire giants, cloud giants, and finally storm giants. In the past, a hill giant would be obligated (from a religious perspective at least) to follow the wishes of stone giant. None of the lower kinds could order around a storm giant. You would imagine the ending of this ancient social structure would either require a proclamation from Annam or massive revolt from his creations.

Zephyros: The giant wizard allows Aremus and Dren to bring the group up to speed on the caste system. “Indeed, this practice was ended by the cruel god who created it. A few days, ago all of giant kind simultaneously received the same vision,” the wizard solemnly explains before waving his hand again in ritual. A different world washes over the entire party.

Vision: You all stand in a peaceful valley. Many of you quickly realize that you are in the vision Eldrarth saw earlier. Towering before you is massive totem pole consisting of all the different types of giants. While the structure is impressive, it appears very old and fragile.

Turning around, you see waves of humans charging towards the totem pole. Some are soldiers, but most are simply villagers with pitchforks and torches. Mixed in are a few humans in religious cloaks and masks that appear to be themed around reptiles and different natural elements. Things suddenly grow much darker.

You all look up and see what has blotted out the sun. The skies are filled with legion of dragons, every type and color, greedily circling the totem pole.

The charging armies sweep over the group and things become incredibly chaotic. They attack the tower. It becomes impossible to retain all that happens. Some of you see something even larger in the skies above the dragons, a dark blob with many tentacles. Others witness mountains and rivers take bipedal forms.

Fistan suddenly finds himself emotionless and is the only one who hears a wolf howl in the distance.

Without warning, the tower is struck by a bolt of lightning and explodes. A blinding light washes over everything and you are all back on the cliff with Zephyros.

“I apologize, but I don’t believe words would have done it justice. Annman is offering us all freedom at a price. The ordning in exchange for the genocides of the other races of the world."

I plan on living forever. Or die trying.
"Pfft. So, the reason you're not trying to kill us because you're high enough so no one could order you about? And how do you explain Nightstone being bombed by one of these" Ordrar motions toward the citadel they're on.
"How many flying things could be around? What do you want us to do? It's not like we can organize the nations to kill any giant they see."

"'Words wouldn't have done it justice'?? Are you out of your head? How do you get genocide of the other races from that? Are giants all completely insane?"

Tranio is disgusted by the attitudes displayed by the giants. He knows he doesn't understand it all -- the politics of other races don't particularly interest him and he generally makes do with generic statements designed not to offend or (if he's in a mood) to provoke. But they are not thought-through positions.

For the most part he depends on his innate sense of justice, and the certainty that all things die. Even, perhaps, the ordning. That, however, is a position keeps to himself for now.

Dren shook his head as the vision cleared. He wasn’t sure what to make of it really. But Zephyros explained what was going on in giant land.

“Ye ‘ave t’ realize t’other races willnae let ye kill ‘em off,” Dren said. “I mean, dwarves’ve been fightin’ off giants f’r ages. Noo I know we be better fighters than pointy-eared elves an’ ‘umans, but -- well, the ‘umans at least -- they got numbers on ye giants. Ye cannae kill ‘em all. They’re like cockroaches. Soon ye’d ‘ave Waterdeep an’ Silverymoon t’ arms. I’m no’ sure ye’d stand against their magical an’ military power. An’ tha’ ain’t countin’ Gauntlgrym, Mithral ‘all, Citadels Felbar an’ Anbar, an’ wotever the’elves decide t’ dae.”

Response to Bethany: Zephyros nods. “I cannot claim to have understood all that was seen. However, the vision showed our structure as old and failing. The bolt of lightning was the All Father destroying it himself before his enemies could. Perhaps he thinks my kind will prove more effective with the shackles removed.”

The wizard scratches his beard. “In truth, our god had not reached out to us in centuries. The crumbling of the great giant empires had infuriated him and we were cast aside.” The wizard looks up to the heavens. “To even hear anything from him, I fear many will interpret this as the moment to strike back.”

Response to Ordrar: Zpehyros looks shocked and shakes his head at Ordrar’s accusation. “My standing in the caste has nothing to do with this. I am opposed to the destruction of any life,” he explains. “I begged my master not to attack Nightstone and he ordered my execution! I escaped by the skin of my teeth and am here trying to help you all now.”

The old wizard sighs. “I’m afraid many cloud giants lust over artifacts and magic. My former master heard the tales of the mysterious rock in your town square and decided it would be a valuable weapon in the coming wars.”

Response to Dren: “The giants are not just at war with you. They are at war with themselves,” the wizard desperately explains. “Perhaps it was wrong to have an ordning, but it kept the peace. Now there will only be chaos as the strongest and greediest of my kind clash.”

The wizard shivers. “Giants at war against armies, dragons, and their own kin. I fear there will be nothing left but ashes.”

Response to Aremus: “We must find the Storm King,” says a determined Zephyros. “Lord Hekaton is the giant who sits at the very top of the Ordning. There has never been one of my kind before to exhibit such bravery and honor,” the wizard states proudly.

“Not only that, but his Queen has a profound love of the small folk. The reason your world has been largely undisturbed by my kind is thanks to the two of them. They would never let this happen.”

Zephyros clutches his staff. “I have unable to contact them or anyone in the royal court. I fear the worst.“

He steps towards the party. “I saw the bravery you all showed on the bridge. Please, you must warn the people of your world. Let them know of what is coming and of that not all my kind are their enemies. Most importantly, you must find The Storm King! My magic allows me to explore many worlds, but I will never be accepted in yours.”

Transport: Zephyros will offer to let the party ride on his cloud to Goldenfields. They are also free to continue by wagon if they prefer.
