Day 238: Tor

As Merin prepares to retrieve his Phoenix Feather for his follow-up attack, Tor moves into position (as indicated below) and prepares to Manipulate Way on his target; seeing that the Da'Roneh seem to be resistant to paralysis, Tor switches tactics. He is preparing to Manipulate Thermal Way (Cold.)
GM: Tor who was moving to get a read on the unseen foe who sounded the alarm senses Sheldon manipulate Way targeting him and no longer need to see him to determine his location. He halts his forward movement. He also can sense that his assault will no longer be necessary.

Day 238: Bolo

Bolo can feel the power used by Sannit and decides to follow up on her mate's attack. She intends to (befriend) the eldest Da'Roneh unless he is incapacitated, then she will make the same attempt on the younger, (using an ingot of tin to augment the attempt).
GM: Bolo performs Befriend. The application is a bit different when using the Academic skill instead of the Theologic skill.

[sblock=Befriend]Bolo: 78 x2(tin) = 156 + 55(d100) = 211
Da'Roneh Headhunter: 30(skepticism) + 47(clarity) + 32(d100) = 109
Damage: 211 - 109 = 102% * 23 = 23
Persona: -19
Mind: 2 - 23 = -21: stupefied[/sblock]
GM: Bolo can, indeed, sense what Sannit had previously done and performs her own task upon the same target. The formerly dazed Da'Roneh Headhunter succumbs to the befriending and stands stupefied upon his platform.

Saemund: full health
Da'Roneh Novice: compelled (Will = -19)(duration 1.5 hours)

Merin: full health
Sheldon: full health

GM: At this point the 3 sentries have been eliminated as a threat. An alarm was sounded; but as yet, no further activity has been noted.

With the sentries incapacitated Saemund continues forward prepared to (cause the loss of personal identity) in any foe he encounters. He holds a tin ingot in his left hand, and axe in his right, just in case.

OOC: Saemund will use an ingot of tin to augment Dementia.

San-Bolo will pause to scour the jungle with all their senses to find any hidden or stealthy foes, or any indication that the alarm signal was heard. If they detect nothing they will creep forward with Saemund.

Turtle keeps himself as small and quiet as he can.

Turtle keeps himself as small and quiet as he can.
Sheldon and Indigo move forward as well.
OOC: GM NOTE:
The alarm tone previously generated would be able to be heard for miles.

GM: As members of the Seekers move forward, they can see that the understory and undergrowth both clear somewhat due to the prevalence of some much larger trees. It is readily evident that the Da'Roneh have constructed a completely arboreal village with a network of passageways connecting the large trees. The development continues on farther than it is clear to see.

Gesture being universal and not dependent upon language. Bolo gives a "come here" signal to the two stupefied Da'Roneh still standing at their sentry posts. Both use the system of vines and rope to climb down and stand in front of Sannit and Saemund. Both are adults. One is male and one is female. Both are wearing skirts, shin guards, and bracers made of jute fabric. The femal is also wearing a light fabric shirt and a snakeskin belt. Both are adorned with various trinkets, mostly bird feet.

Sheldon gives a sharp intake of breath and runs his left hand through his hair, pulling it back from his face.
"Bird feet. Do you remember? Saemund and Vadin were not with us yet. Galen and Siofra were. On the road into Southroad Fair, we had only just departed the caravan, we were attacked on the road by a group of Da'Roneh youths about our own age. Later at Southroad Fair, we were told they were the Birdfoot Clan. These people are already raiding the road to the east. There must be path from here over the cliff."

Indigo, who is a bit behind him, adds.
"I remember. You took a spear to the gut... Look at that construction. I would say a fair number of people live here. We should not just walk in, and we likely cannot stand here long. We may very well get overrun if we go straight at them."

GM: As she finishes speaking, before anyone else can respond, some quick hostile words are heard in Da'Roneh followed by a very loud boom that Merin readily recognizes as a sonic blast. It is immediately followed with a scream and the young sentry who had been compelled to leave his post is seen falling to his death from further into the village.

OOC: GM NOTE:
Merin suspects that the Da'roneh are masters of mechanical Way.

Merin says, "That was no accident. Someone in the village hit the sentry with a Sonic Blast, likely as punishment for leaving his post. They know we are here, there can be no ambush. And if they are using Sonic Blast, it is likely that they are masters of Mechanical Way. Perhaps this is a time when we should retreat, rather than risk running into the elders of their tribe? They could very likely overpower us."

Tor nods in agreement. "We have won this small encounter. But I don't think we can win the bigger battle, at least not yet. Retreat is probably our best option at this point."

Saemund offers,
"Perhaps if we leave some trinkets behind as we leave we can coax the two tribes into a war, then the problem takes care of itself."

Day 238: Vadin

Vadin, who is not especially quiet but has a tendency to let the others talk while he listens, clears his throat.
"When I was a guard with my former group, there was an older man who was once a soldier. He would often discuss old battles. I often listened.

Here is what I am thinking: Since the sentries have been effectively eliminated, the Da'Roneh only know we are a threat. They do not know who we are or how many of us there are. As they already have enmity with the group across the lake, it stands to reason that they will be suspected, anyway.

I cannot see the Da'Roneh coming in full force. That would be a foolish strategy. What I can see is that a war party will soon be formed and sent to investigate. We should go at them like skirmishers. The Da'Roneh should head for the other side of the lake to their known enemy following this path.

We should move around close to the north side of the old battle site and hit them as they go by. If we overcome them, the remaining Da'Roneh will further suspect the enemy across the lake.

Whatever they send after that, we can decide to hit again or remain hidden and watch the results
."

Indigo sheaths her swords, nods at Vadin, and says, "I like it."

San-Bolo nod together at Vadin's plan. "That's good enough for us," Sannit says. "We can go right away and have a rest before the next conflict. What about these two?" he sticks a thumb at the Da'Roneh. "Should we cut their throats or bring them with us?"

Bolo says, "Whatever we do they won't need these anymore." She takes from the Da'Roneh all the trinkets, bracers, shin-guards, and lastly the snakeskin belt. She puts everything into party inventory except the snakeskin belt, which she will keep if no one objects.

While the people talk Turtle keeps his senses on the jungle. He likes this place, even more than his home forest, and the lake would provide plenty of fish.

Tor nods in agreement with Vadin. "Let's make haste then, and get to the ambush point as soon as possible."

Merin says, "Agreed. Let's get moving."

OOC: Once the party reaches the ambush site, Merin and Tor will hide, using their bows, and try to Manipulate Way to temporarily change the color of their skin to match the surrounding foliage. Merin will also try creating the REVERSE of a sonic clap; a thump of null sound, that will dampen the sonic energy in a radius, creating an area of silence around the party, so that they will remain undetected by the Da'Roneh. His intention is to strike the Da'Roneh from behind, by surprise, at close range, using bows.
