Elves in forgotten realms and 5e - what is the official source?

So... when the book says "The eladrin of the realms are bla bla bla", ... those aren't the new eladrin sub race?

That's clear as mud...

I'll double check, its been awhile since I read the SCAG, but the Shadar Kai not being mentioned in the Elven part of the SCAG I'm sure about.

I guess my central question is if there are eladrin in FR, and if those eladrin correspond to the 5e eladrin as described in MToF...

There are Eladarin in FR, but the problem is they corespond to every edition, including celestial, fey, and humaniod Eladarin.

See that bothers me, a lot. Rule changes and god changes can be explain with the (sometimes dubious) "upheavals" in FR (times of trouble etc) but some things just aren't right.

"Celestial? Ha, we were fey all along!!!" pffff.

Is there a need to know the precise origin and story for the elves, or rather aren’t conflicting, differing tales a good thing, as it represents the mythology of the people. If we are talking about something that happened several thousand years ago then I’d like a bit of mystery along the way. I definitely wouldn’t expect a PC to need to know a precise history.

The 5e DMG dealt with this by suggesting that Elves born on Arborea, the plane where Arvandor exists, are born celestial instead of humaniod or fey, which means Eladarin born their are celestials, but the twist is Drow, Shadar Kai, Avariel, High Elves, Wood Elves, and Sea Elves would also be born celestial on Arboria, which would lead to effectively new races of Celestial Elves.

So its weird.

Now that Shadar Kai are elves, what are they called in FR Elvish.

Like how Averiel are called Aril'Tel'Quessir in Elvish, what are Shadar Kai called in Elvish? Shadar'Tel'Quessir?

Forgotten Realms

=Tel'Quessir (The People)

Aquatic elf ( Alu'Tel'Quessir, two cultures: Great Sea and Sea of Fallen Stars)
Avariel (aka winged elves, Aril'Tel'Quessir, see 'Races of Faerun')
Drow (aka dark elves)
Fey'ri ( aka elven Tiefings; from races of Faerun)
Lythari (elven werewolves)
Marels (evil aquatic elves found in the Moonsea; from 'The Moonsea', AD&D2E)
Moon elf (aka silver elf, Tue'Tel'Quessir, the 'high elves' of Toril)
Celadrin (aka Surin'Tel'Quessir, elven Aasamar; from dragon mag) I'd use this term for 5e Eladarin too.
Star elf (aka mithral elf, Ruar'Tel'Quessir, mysterious elves from a demiplane in the Ethereal, from 'Unapproachable East')
Sun elf (aka gold elf, Ar'Tel'Quessir, the 'gray elves' of Toril)Wild elf (aka green elf, Sy'Tel'Quessir)
Wood elf (aka copper elf, Or'Tel'Quessir, descended from a mix of moon, sun, and Wild Elves).
Shadar Kai (?'Tel'Quessir).

If it happened several thousand years ago, an elf's grandfather may have seen it, and passed it on. Interesting thought.

"Several thousand" in this case is actually 25,000 to 30,000 years before the present in the setting. That's several dozen elven generations, so no present day elf's grandparent could have seen it...
