High Lord Doom Indraeyan,

Unfortunately, the Soulmonger was not the sole evil artefact present on this peninsula. Our path led us to Artus Cimber and his cursed ring. Its corrupting power created dissension among our little group, playing us off on each other. The influence of the ring was a fierce adversary but we finally overcame this obstacle, together. I hope the wounds are fully healed, time will tell.

Drifting on this infested river, we leaved what was once called Camp Righteous, exhausted physically and mentally. Only to find a falter company trying to survive mad monkey fever and other infections. By Kelemvor's grace, we found Perne Salhana, Alister Bol's squire. Returning to civilization was already in our mind but our happiness was short-lived as Commander Breakbone asked for our help.

Alistair Bol's mission was a dead end, my Lord. The Soulmonger is still far beyond our reach but exploring lost ruins, if nothing else, could only bring us closer.
Doubt ends where Faith begins.

I pray for you, My High Lord Doom, and may The Judge enlighten me along the path.

Chrysagon of Mir, your faithful Iron Brother.

Legend
When everyone was nearly ready to depart, Scoutmaster Wulf and Captain Perne joined them for some last minute discussion.

"The river is mostly rocks and waterfalls on its way from the Aldani basin. You would be carrying your canoe as often as paddling it. Furthermore, we will be leaving the river and heading west by morning and there would be no guarantee that it would remain wherever you might leave it." the Sticks were informed by the half-elf.

"Your canoe is bigger and in better repair than any that we are left with." added the Captain, "I would like to ask if we can use it to send a group of our worst wounded back to Port Nyanzaru. We will compensate you for it, of course. We can also send any letters you'd like us to send, as well as inform Alistar Bol that you were successful in finding me."

Miss Imogen does not feel the canoe is hers to give. At the same time, she does observe the third possibility which has remained unspoken.

"Even if the company chooses not to take the canoe on this mission," she says, "we will need use of the canoe to return after its completion. Compensation alone will not help us return safely."

THere's an unaccustomed chill in the air she thinks, as the shadows grow longer.

"Whatever is decided, I am set to leave, once I have a chance to speak with Captain Breakbone. I know he is busy, and I will not need much of his time."

Morning?
Round 0

Dellrak didn’t say much of anything as the others argued with the captain of Camp Righteous and talked with the scoutmaster. He just settled himself in what shade there was and gulped down some water. The jungle heat and humidity were starting to get to him. He thought he’d caught some jungle fever. He’d been a bit delirious the last few days, though he’d pushed on with his dwarven constitution and didn’t let on to the others. It was starting to clear up, though.

What in Moradin’s beard was he, a dwarf, doing in a jungle? He missed his mountains. Did he hear they were heading off to some high cliff? That sounded a lot more promising.

Dellrak pushed himself back to his feet, finished off his water, and tossed it to one of the camp boys with instructions to refill it and return it. Then the dwarven ranger followed after the others to the armory. The selection was decent enough, if the quality wasn’t up to dwarven standards. Her perused what he might need and then exclaimed, “Ah hah!” as he picked up a good dwarven heavy crossbow. It didn’t have the range of his longbow, and was slower firing, but it hit harder. He would still have the longbow if he needed the range. Dellrak gathered up a case of bolts for the crossbow as well.

“Ready t’ gae when ye are.”

OOC: Better weapon than longbow, at least until Level 5 when Extra Attack kicks in, and that can be handled by taking crossbow expert at level 4, if I want, unless you need the extra 50’ range, but I find that rare. though I probably won’t go crossbow expert. Despite the Archery fighting style, he seems built more for melee (actually a switch-hitter, as it were). Might need to let me know what his role in combat has been.

"I share Miss Imogen 's concerns. I imagine that we could use a raft to go downstream but... besides, how much time do we have to go back? There was a rendezvous with a ship..."

"They return trip may be easier with smaller canoes. We will be going with the current, rather than against it. Perhaps Qawasha has some thoughts?"

Legend
Captain Perne took Miss Imogen to see the Commander, saying, "I'm sure when the time comes we can find a way for you to return to Port Nyanzaru. I plan to ask Alastair Bol to send reinforcements as soon as he is able. They'll return with more canoes. It's important that we get the worst of our sick out of this damned jungle as soon as possible. Hopefully we can open more regular transport back-and-forth between the Port and here."

"You asked to see me?"
said Commander Breakbone more amiably than his previous tone.
