It almost seems like it should be formalized that you can't eliminate a subclass with a score of 1, because that would be overill, you have to wait for somebody to upvote it back to 2 before you can kill it with a precise hit.

Hmm...that would add a layer of strategy that could be fun. Ya know, forcing the haters to burn one of their upvotes in order to eliminate their latest target, then hope that nobody upvotes it again before they get to strike...

It might be more trouble than it's worth, though. And sometimes it's satisfying to "crit" a downvote so hard that it drops negative.
