WotC WotC general D&D survey just went live.

Ok, I guess I'm just not going to understand you then. WotC has decided not to try anything with the slightest risk to it. They're not being forced by anything except fear of the mob.

What does the MCU have to do with this?
Both the MCU and modern D&D are to my taste. I do not agree with your assessment, and think that when you say they will not "try anything with the slightest risk to it" you just mean "they are not making things to my perdonal taste" which I do not consider to be the same thing at all.

I guess you weren't around here on the EN World boards back in 2015 when it seemed like 2 out of every 3 players was bitching and moaning about how overpowered Great Weapon Master and Sharpshooter were and that WotC HAD HAD HAD to fix them or else the game was going to die a quick death.

Now they're finally doing it 8 years later and it's a waste of time? Sounds like it's the player's needs and expectations for an effective game that have fallen, nothing about WotC, LOL.
Right, I'm sure WotC is once again, forced to follow the winds of "market forces", as @Parmandur said. Kind of makes them not game designers at all, really.

I'm sure that's what you think.

Aren't all the things the old guard are mad at: Witchlight, Strixhaven, Radiant Citadel, Tasha's rules, etc new things?

Or is 'trying something new' basically just code for 'reprinting 2e word for word'?

It seems that complaints that D&D isn't "risky" enough are similar to complaint about the tone and consistency of Marvel.
My main issue with post-Endgame MCU was a lack of coherent vision (not unlike the Star Wars sequels), but they seem to be getting their act together better of late.
