Angus swings his lager blade at the spider as it tries to rush past him. "Na ye dinnae!" The weapon slices a deep wound through the vermin and the creature falls dead and is quickly covered in the shifting and writhing webs in the corridor. "Thae webs ur alive!"

Quinn watches as the old armoury fills up with spiders. He takes a step and then unleashes a volley of arrow with his bow. He manages to avoid all his allies and target the spider that tried to web Aureus. The arrows dig into the spider, one after another. The vermin lets out a low screeching sound, but it doesn't die. The wounds to it are grievous, however. It staggers on its legs.

Seeing endless numbers of spiders, Litrix decides to use one of his most potent items. He calls upon the power of the marshals throughout the ages, leading incredible charges against overwhelming number of enemies.

He immediately puts the aura to good use, pushing forward with punishing strikes that resound solidly over the area, encouraging his allies for even more heroics.
The dragonblooded knight's longsword cuts a deep wound in the spider that is climbing on the wall in front of him. While the spider is hurt badly, it doesn't die from the first blade strike. Litrix swings his blade again and nearly cut the spider in half. It hangs dead from the webs for a moment until it falls on the webbed ground in front of Litrix and Angus.

The webs that were underneath it begin to cover the dead spider as they move on the gorund. They do seem to be alive, or magically animated in some way. The webs crawl up the wall in front of Litrix. It is as if they want to reach out and grab the dragonblooded human.

The spiders continue to swarm. The smaller spiders rush to fill in the gaps left by the larger arachnids. The one closest to Maur climbs up on the stone door and tries to bite at Maur, but it leaves itself open for the dwarf champion to counter. Another of the smaller spiders comes out of the hollowed out wall and hisses at Maur.

In the corridor, the smaller spiders all rush at Angus and try to bite him. The attacks of the vermin aren't very effective, however. Still ,he has three spiders on him and once luck bite could deliver a toxic poison.

Another spider rushes into the armour and carefully avoids Aureus to place itself wherei t can attack her and Caerth. Aureus lashes out with her magical short sword and manages to cut a wound on the creature.

"Nope! Nope! Nope!" She rushes out of the armour past Maur Angus and Quinn. The spiders bite at her as she flees the room, but the vermin in the armour get in each others way. They nearly trip over each other trying o bite her. The larger one hisses in anger at the smaller one. The smaller dog-sized spider brittles its back at the large one.

Maur expected the mad rush and he moved almost in advance to the arachnid. His warhammer punts puny enemy so far away nothing remained, but a smear on the wall.

Phar watched Litrix and was bolstered by the Knight's abilities. With a mental command, Phar's hawk took to the sky to ensure they would not be surrounded by spiders from some other flank.

Phar turned to Cearth, who was now beside him,

"I am no expert on such things but an infestation of this size must surely cause strain upon the local ecosystem. It may be prudent to cull much of this nest."

The truth of the matter was things were getting too dire to try to save the spiders. Once the Nightshade was dead, they could worry about the wellbeing of spiders. The Nightshade, though, would not likely open itself to a direct attack.

For now, Phar decided to prevent the creatures from surrounding them. From his earlier investigations of the ruins, Phar was familiar with the architecture of these buildings and was confident he could put lay a powerful spell inside the building. He moved, both to gain some distance between himself and the spiders but, also, to get a good angle of where to lay the Wall of Force that would prevent the spiders from flanking them.

With an incantation, the wall sprang into being. Since it was invisible, he shouted to the other while pointing at the walls,

"There is an invisible barrier blocking any more spiders from moving forward there and there...but I was unable to separate them all!"

he indicates the five spiders just north of the barrier

Caerth watches Aureus' back as she rushes out of the old armoury. He brings Thundershadow down on the head of the first of the large spiders that came through the wall. There is a satisfying crack of carapace. The, the half-orc druid retreats from the room. He manages to avoid the two large spiders' fangs as he moves quickly out of the room, past Maur and the open stone doors, and then just north to stand next to Phar.

"As long as they are in the thrall of that thing in there, we will have to fight them to the death," Caerth replies. "We need to get rid of it."

"It wull hae tae dae," Angus says as he tries to free himself from the webs entangling his front hooves. The dog-sized spiders in front of him aren't very tough, but there are quite a few of them. If they swarm the reeve, it would only take one bite to ruin his day.

OOC: @Tellerian Hawke is up next for Angus. DC 16 Strength check to break out of the webs. I think for such an ability check, it counts as a move action, but it might be a standard action. I'll doublecheck.

A moment after Phar's spell is in place, the webs in the hollwed out wall surge forward. The bulk of webs hit the wall and deflected to the east. Only a small amount manages to shift through at the bottom and the webs doesn't spread across Maur's feet. The webs seem to glide under the spider next to Maur and cover the dead spider he just splattered against the stone door.

On the other side of the wall of force, the webs begin to climb until they are 10 feet up the wall.

Inside the corridor, Angus can see the webs shifting, as the centaur tries to free himself. He struggles against the sticky webs, but cannot pull himself free. "A'm stuck lik' glue!"

OOC: Question about Wall of Stone: it says 'it needs to be solidly supported by stone' - I guess if I recreate the ceiling in the large area without arches it is not well supported and cannot be cast that way? The idea being, create a wall on the ceiling, and let it crash several tons of stone down on the spiders...

Maur squishes the spider in front of him and moves over it's body to protect Angus' flank.

OOC: again, if 5' step SW isn't possible, remain where he is, in any case, gain +2 AC from locking plate

OOC: Probably not.

Maur is surprised that his first strike with his warhammer doesn't squish the spider, although there is a satisfying crack on its back. The dwarf champion brings his hammer down a second time, however, the weapon crushes the spider's head and it falls to the ground and curls up in death.

The webs underneath it seem to reach up and consume it.

OOC: The two squares directly south and SW of Maur are covered in webs. Note that Phar's wall of force blocked most of the entrance, but the last time the webs surged forward, they crept through gaps near the ground and moved 5 feet towards Maur. When they surge forward again the next round, they will, once again, expand the range by 5 feet. You might want Maur to step back.

In his lair, Shouzas is roused from his rest by the noise of combat. The immortal creature digs itself out of his lair and surveys the scene in the courtyard. Shouzas chitters loudly and begins to snap its pinchers frantically. The magical beast moves to stand on the roof near the old armoury and then chitters again. Then, it moves back away from the fight.

It is hard to understand what is going through the creatures mind, although Caerth has an idea. It might be a strange excitement. Maybe hunger. Or maybe fear.

Start of Round 2
One of the larger spiders tries to get at Maur through the Wall of Force. It rushes into it and bounces back. The spider seems confused for a second. Then the Nightshade makes a screeching sound and the spider stops. It and the other spider next to it spin webs and shoot them onto the magical barrier.

Through the open doorway into the armoury, Angus and Maur can see several of the spiders move away. The creatures are definitely under some sort of trance and move together as if they are one creature. It is some sort of hivemind. Two of the spiders disappear from view while the first of the large spiders entered the room creeps towards Maur and tries to bite him. Its fangs only bite the doorframe. The other spider left in the room spins a web and shoots it at Maur. It comes very close, but impacts the open doorway instead of the dwarf champion.

Angus watches as several of the large spiders move away. They seem to sway in time with the living web. The medium spiders in front of him also begin to sway back and forth as if in a trance.
