Yeah, seriously. People who claim to be "prompt creators/artists" are kidding themselves.
I have seen some ARTIST friends do pretty amazing things with Midjourney by tweaking and curating prompts and outputs over the course of hours. It might not be the same thing as painting but it also isn't nothing.

I feel like a lot of this "it's just clicking a button!" attitude comes from people who have never used it and don't have the first idea of what it takes to get a thing you want.

At the same time,I absolutely agree that there is a huge amount of low effort crap out there. But you know what? That was true during the d20 boom too and that useless chaff was made by humans and no better for it.

I absolutely understand and agree with the people who want to make sure generative AI is not trained on stolen data. But I also completely disagree with the "it's not art" people. Whether something is art is based on literally one thing: does a person look at it and see art.

I have played around with generating prompts with AI art. It is more than just clicking a button, but it's also way less than actually drawing the image yourself. That doesn't make it an art.

Here's a question for the "prompts aren't making art people":

I can't draw. Like, at all. But I can make enough of a sketch that if I scan it in and use it as part of a prompt I can -- after a few rounds of tweaking -- get something that I feel is what I was going after with my sketch.

Am I the artist now?

If not, what exactly is the minimal amount of work/time/whatever necessary for me to claim ownership over the result?

"No ethical consumption under capitalism" isn't a justification or excuse for bad things happening. It's a problem that should be solved. And should not be used to dismiss concerns about the ethics of a new technology.

It is extremely easy to solve, just don't buy anything produced using AI or robotics.

In general I am against people imposing their own morals on others. If you think something is wrong don't partake in it, but let me make my own choices on right and wrong. It is simple as that.

A requirement to disclose this would be great but I'm not sure we can expect that from US regulatory agencies. So in that case, we are reliant on corporations to disclose honestly. And, you know...

And you think removing intellectual property rights is going to help keep corps in check?

Yes because I can take whatever they do and resell it myself. It will take away their near-monopoly on things.

Who has all the capital and distribution to capitalize on this, your average mom and pop ....

Yes with the internet in fact they do. Look at the thousands (or millions) of content creators and influencers that exist already. Now imagine each of them is allowed to use others works and the works of major corporations without any sort of permission or agreement.
