This is why I only kick the nests of chill hornets.
I still haven't adjusted to my new contacts, and I misread this at first as "chili hornets," and I was ... confused. Very confused. I'm at least not confused about that anymore, though--I don't like needing reading glasses, but it's more about it being an inconvenience than any vanity or age-denial.

Thing 1. The consistent lack of empathy is disheartening.

Thing 2. No amount of worship will turn him into the god you think he is.
I feel like those are unduly harsh criticisms of what were intended to be whimsically amusing children's characters. Granted, they're portrayed as horrific nightmare fuel in the live action film, but I think we can all agree that was a terrible mistake all around.

I wonder if it's possible for some posters to leave their politics behind when they post.
There are a lot of politics that I think shouldn’t get left behind, like “I am a human being of equal worth, and also a citizen” and “gratuitous cruelty is bad” - stuff that shouldn’t be political but becomes so when people use the state’s resources to oppose them. Other stuff, sure, should.

Unrelated to anything above: Maybe if you think everyone else is using the word wrong, you're the one who doesn't know what it means.
This is true, but there's a few cases where the word in question may not have a universally agreed-upon meaning in the first place. When a discussion has to start with a lengthy and inconclusive debate about key definitions in the first place, perhaps that's just one to avoid altogether.

Was gonna post this in Another Thread, but I didn't want to bump it to the top of the stack.

It's good advice. I did that one time with an obscure miniatures-related thing and had my own old forum and blog posts partially quoted back to me. Have much the same problem with some image searches where it turns out I'm apparently the only person who ever posted a painted image of some old oddball figure anywhere online. I should probably feel happy that I contributed some tiny bit of info to the internet that someone else might find useful someday, but really it's just depressing to know there's no one else out there with similarly obscure tastes. :)

AI is hilariously* wrong about water quality, environmental regulations, and water safety. I mean--we add 200 mg/L of chlorine to water pipes all the time to sanitize them after construction, but we don't leave it there. Nobody should drink disinfectant, no matter which politician is touting it as a cure-all for a pandemic, and we certainly don't put it in wetlands after we flush the pipe. Good lord.

*and not the funny, everybody-is-laughing kind of hilarity, either.

Obviously they're flying insects that inject you with Carolina Reaper juice rather than conventional venom. They usually aim to stings lips, mouths and eyeballs if possible. Undoubtedly used in some Xtreme spicy food recipes.

Still not as absurd as an owlbear. :)
