What other ways? A palidin is a holy warrior in plate. A pursuit avenger is a holy warrior in cloth who runs after that one orc whilst his party gets knocked around. And happens to be dex/wis. He's a pali in the high cha way? In the lay on hands way?

Essentials slayer says hi. There power list is hit with sword and hit with sword harder. Occasionally utilitys that do something else. Also, one can argue that a fighter could have simply not used any powers. You would just suck compared to one that did. Is that a problem?

This is a player style disconnect problem. You players (assuming for 'they') are simply picking which parts of the game they want to not be bad at. They are obviously not interested in having weaknesses. You should either embrace that or find players that do like such things.

To me, it is always a turn-baised tactical fantasy fighting game where oddball misanthropes+one guy who can talk go and save the world from a mad god/wizard who's out to control everything with an awesome magic spell. Other considerations are not specific to DnD.

Focus fire on the character that can't take focus fire. If the tank exists, he is either up to the taunt requirement of avoiding it or the squishys die. It works well to disincentivize squishys from being remotely mortal. This is good or bad depending on taste.
