WOIN EONS #92: Four N.E.W. Alien Races II

The Regeneration exploit for Changelings makes me feel a lot better about adding a similarly powerful exploit for a slime species. Plus, these species are neat! Love it :D

WOIN Adding a weapon scaling between personal and spaceship.

I'd really recommend giving the idea of Mega damage another look - it'd help stuff make way more sense in my head. I wouldn't go with a damage multiplier/divisor myself, though. Instead, I'd have it so that damage from lower stuff (personnel -> vehicle, for instance) can't do anything against...

    Thoughts on evolving exploits

Oh, right, yeah, mutations are a thing. At any rate, this is something I put together using the idea to demonstrate my concept, and also using my obsession with pretty tables. This replaces Mind Shield, Shield Other, and Mental Fortress with one levelable exploit.

    Thoughts on evolving exploits

While I was working on a Mass Effect conversion for Shadowrun, specifically with biotic stuff, it got me thinking about how to implement a similar kind of leveling system for exploits and stuff. Now, obviously, a system like that wouldn't work with all exploits, but it could be very useful as an...

    Starship Scaling

Awesome, thank you. This will be useful :D How did you calculate the crew size for the Giganto? I've tried looking around and I can't seem to find any real discernable pattern to how it increments. At least, nothing that I can easily slip into a GDocs formula. Same goes for max CU and tonnage...

    Starship Scaling

... wow. That's quite impressive. So based on that, I suppose the best course of action would be to abstract and downsize somewhat, then? And while I'm at it, do you think I could borrow that formula for a while, as well as calculating crew size for a given class? Pretty please?

    Starship Scaling

I worked out the ship's approx. internal volume, and then divided that up to get the total amount of hull space it takes up. So for a 20km*3km*2km dreadnought, that's 120 billion cubic metres, divided by 27 (the volume of a single CU in cubic metres) to get 4,444,444,444.44 CU that the entire...

    Starship Scaling

... which is all well and good, but I just did the math for a dreadnought's CU value, and it was something like 4 billion. Mmmmmaaaaaaaaaybe I should just cut them down for game purposes...

    Starship Scaling

As a part of some WOIN work that I'm doing, creating content for a setting to be used with it, I tried to convert a starship over to using the setting. Now, for its universe, it's a large cruiser, but still just a cruiser, clocking in at just over a kilometre long. However, upon converting it to...

Combat Rework - Less damage dice pls?

I was planning something a bit like that, I was just running it by here first to gather everybody's thoughts on it. Thanks, though :D This has been some good discussion, too. I appreciate everybody's input that they've given.

Combat Rework - Less damage dice pls?

The thing is, that still involves rolling for damage, which I'm trying to avoid. I want to get the maximum amount of information possible from as few separate rolls as possible, with regards to combat.

Combat Rework - Less damage dice pls?

In my opinion, not really. Well, sort of, but my point is that it doesn't make sense. The gun itself shouldn't have variable damage, grazing hits and all that should be a function of the attack roll, rather than the weapon itself. There's the possibility that I'm overcomplicating stuff, though.

Combat Rework - Less damage dice pls?

In response to that, I'm almost tempted to say that a mechanic like Margins of Success/Failure might be a decent addition as well - so for instance, if you roll a fail on the shooty test, but it's within a certain margin, then you still get, say... half damage? A quarter damage? But I'm not sure...

Combat Rework - Less damage dice pls?

Upon thinking about the combat system, and specifically about rolling for damage, I realised that it doesn't particularly make that much sense. In the real world, a firearm that has a range of damage as wide as something from most RPGs would be considered an awful firearm. The much more...
