D&D 5E Hope for an open GSL?

Open licenses are a horrible idea; not just for the financials of a company, but because they literally allow any idiot with a convert-to-PDF function on their favored editor to churn out horrible content that is automatically sanctioned by the license. I'd much rather a restricted license than...

Why is the Vancian system still so popular?

I have to wonder; why are some people that have no issue at all with the utterly arbitrary 'Vancian' casting system, which equates to nothing more than narrative control, against the exact same thing when it comes to Fighters? There is literally no actual difference between a Wizard being able...

What would you like to see happen with FR?

FR does fit 'high fantasy' as a genre, it's just completely unoriginal and a symptom of the word fantasy becoming devalued from indicative of the fantastical to simply comfortable cliches that have been repeated nearly verbatim since Tolkien.

What would you like to see happen with FR?

FR needs to be retired. The only redeeming feature in so long was the Spellplague. The Realms had way, way too many high-level characters. More than a few are Ed Greenwood's fault, the guy is way, way too prone to inserting pervy characters, many of them self-inserts, into the fiction. And...

As a player, do you have a preferred gender for your GM?

Chivalry is distinct from common courtesy in the way you're expected to treat certain people. That's why distinguishing it from common courtesy is important; they're not nearly the same thing. Ideally, common courtesy means treating everyone well in roughly the same manner, disregarding gender...

As a player, do you have a preferred gender for your GM?

Fun fact: Chivalry, while being highly touted as a positive trait by some people, is inherently sexist. What I'm getting at is that chivalry is not a positive trait. Being thoughtful and kind is good, treating people as if they need special treatment because they're inherently inferior is bad.

As a player, do you have a preferred gender for your GM?

You're talking about treating a woman like she can't have an opinion that's not endorsed by her husband. It's pretty reprehensible.

    Roles in Roleplaying Games

Then don't play D&D. It's that simple. D&D has always been about fantasy archetype roles. There's a plethora of other systems that won't tell you what to do. D&D is not and has not ever been one of them. Why? What is wrong with progress? If someone else has a good idea, why should you ignore...

    Roles in Roleplaying Games

Requiring system mastery to break out of roles isn't a boon. Clearly stating roles is a boon, to let initial players know what will be expected, generally, of each class. And it's terminology that's been in use since MUDs at least. For that matter, video game design has progressed far faster...

    Roles in Roleplaying Games

...no? It's where your powers come from. Powers are how you overcome combat challenges, and there are more than a few powers that are not combat focused. Granted, the system is flawed in that you will usually have a choice between combat effectiveness or the ability to create a bridge of roots...

    Wishlist do 5 ed

Hahahahah hahahahahaha hahahahah oh my god wait you're serious. "Lost market share," I am guessing is you taking ICv2 numbers seriously, which is hilarious in itself because ICv2 is nothing but a, "Well we asked some people what they thought was doing better," poll that proves nothing about...

If WotC Released D&D 3.75 Tomorrow....

...what? Something between all rules all the time and pure simplicity? What does this even mean? Every other edition falls into that category.

If WotC Released D&D 3.75 Tomorrow....

Why would WotC go to a smaller market to release in a niche they already abandoned for not being profitable enough (largely due to the OGL saturating the market with horrible quality splats) when they're making more money off of DDI alone than most developers will ever see? That's what really...

    Take the Narrative Wounding Challenge.

Except you seem to view HP as the only method of displaying physical harm to a character. Why? They're not a measure of people being hurt at all; never have been, never will be. If you want characters to have significant injuries a HP total makes it literally impossible to do so. "You took...

    Take the Narrative Wounding Challenge.

Everything you post just indicates that you're incapable of imagination past your preferred edition. So play it. Don't try and build idiotic scenarios to try and 'prove' your preference unless you want to defend that per 3E RAW it is literally impossible to die of starvation or exposure. Every...
