The VOIDRUNNER'S CODEX is coming! Explore new worlds, fight oppressive empires, fend off fearsome aliens, and wield deadly psionics with this comprehensive boxed set expansion for 5E and A5E!
That's exactly what I meant. The DM gave a bad description. Since a dex save would result in half damage for a normal character - we have already established that the damage effect is not uniform. And since the rogue can Evade damage without moving more than 5 feet, there were clearly spots in...
I think the problem is in the description. Clearly the spell didn't fill the entire corridor, as the rogue found a spot where they could be safe from harm.
With spells like Fireball we already accept that some people in the area of effect take half as much damage as others (without moving to...
Agreed. A number of OSE adventures I have run (Winter's Daughter, Tomb of the Lizard Kings, Hole in the Oak) have been absolute revelations.
Their formatting and presentation (in particular how they handle the DM map) is beyond anything I've seen in WotC/Paizo publications. Tomb of the Lizard...

The very first published module for D&D 5e, Hoard of the Dragon Queen, has a set-piece duel with a bad guy who specifically attacks his opponent once he is down.
This has been an acknowledged tactic in 5e from the start. :)
In AD&D, wading through piles of normal human opponents (like guards) was made much easier by spells which made you entirely immune to attacks from non-magical weapons such as Protection from Normal Missiles.
Dungeon Craft (youtube channel) gives a very good and balanced review of the new book. And I largely agree with it.
There's great stuff in there. But 5e D&D is poorly suited for many types of horror.
YMMV
Then there is the matter of the forced-damped harmonic oscilation after collision with the cube.
And what is the viscosity of the cube? It's structural integrity?
I think this would be a fantastic trap if it was guarding something important.
For example, this is a dungeon competition hosted by an organization. At the bottom of the pit is the trophy.
