Trail of Cthulhu - my first experiences

Here's another illustration of the stability vs. sanity mechanic in this game. (I agree it's a bit difficult to explain in this format.) In my old campaign, my PC was an accountant with a sneaky side (technically a Private Investigator by occupation, but in this game classes are mostly skill...

    Deadlands: Session Atmosphere

Ennio Morricone. Our Deadlands GM has a couple of his old records on vinyl and they're perfect. But there are inexpensive CD comps on Amazon as well.

4E, Ashen Crown, and Dungeon Crawls

I too skipped encounters when I ran Ashen Crown. I think out of 30, I might have deleted six or seven. In the case of the first dungeon (kruthiks, etc.) I just simply chopped a couple of the superfluous rooms off, describing them as "caved in". I left the best parts, like the mechanical...

Experience Points? Who Needs 'Em? My 4E Eberron Campaign

I never told my players this, but my original intended benchmark for when to level the PCs up was simply to fit the expectations of what adventure I was running at the time. It just turned out to be roughly once every two sessions. My players don't really seem to have an issue with the "how...

Experience Points? Who Needs 'Em? My 4E Eberron Campaign

I worried about this before starting the campaign, but I don't think the effects caused at the table are any worse than 4E's "retraining" concept. The benefits of allowing players to a) try out new powers without being stuck with them forever and b) correct faulty builds midstream outweigh any...

Experience Points? Who Needs 'Em? My 4E Eberron Campaign

So I thought I'd post a little summary of the 4E Eberron campaign I've been running for the past six months. My players are all veterans of several editions of D&D and comfortable with 4E mechanics and battle tactics. In order to speed up level progression, we all came to an agreement: We do...

Converting 3.5 Eberron adventures to 4E-advice, opinions

I think context shows that the reference was to the entirety of Paizo/Dungeon's 3.5 Eberron body of work. I agree with mevers that most or all of that body of work is strong. My negative comment referred to the recent 4E adventure published (last month?). It's not terrible or anything, just...

Converting 3.5 Eberron adventures to 4E-advice, opinions

I've heard that too about the Dungeon stuff, which is why it's a little odd that the only 4E Dungeon adventure published for Eberron to date is a little... lacking.

Converting 3.5 Eberron adventures to 4E-advice, opinions

Actually I think I saw that on the RPG Bloggers network. Good read. Although I didn't get the impression that it really took *that* long to convert something from the post.

Converting 3.5 Eberron adventures to 4E-advice, opinions

I thought "Murder in Oakbridge" was well-written but not quite as Eberronish (other than the murder-mystery trope) as some of the others I've seen. I guess that made it more adaptable to other worlds. Agreed on the VSD trilogy- I've skimmed the first one.

Converting 3.5 Eberron adventures to 4E-advice, opinions

Believe me, I wish I had that chance- but time restricts me.

Converting 3.5 Eberron adventures to 4E-advice, opinions

So I'm looking for some recommendations and advice regarding the conversion of previously published 3.5 Eberron adventures to 4E. My PCs are currently working through Seekers of the Ashen Crown, which purports to take them through level 5. As a followup, I'm currently looking through the body...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Adventure Path: How Successful?

And by the way, mad praise for the conversion work you've done so far. This project has helped me cope with the heartbreaking sadness of having the best third party RPG publisher in existence opt against supporting my edition of choice.

DDI Subscribers: Are you satisfied with your subscription?

I do agree with you that two 40-page adventures and a Side Trek or Delve per month is not my preferred Dungeon structure. I think it would serve WOTC much better to have something like three to four 15-20 page adventures (see Massacre at Fort Dolor from #157, that one was perfect) to go with...

D&D 4E Tiny Adventures Facebook application

One other thing I like about the game- the core fun of it doesn't depend on the "pyramid scheme" of recruiting all your friends to add the application to their pages. Sure, your friends can heal your character while he's in between adventures and give you +1 buffs on your encounters, but...
