We use clothespins across the top of the GM's screen. I got a huge pack of wooden clothespins for $1, so I put the names our regulars on some of them, and simply colored a half dozen more for other players. For monsters I have five with different numbers of dots, and use the one with my name on...
That's largely been my experience as well.
So over the years our default mode in GURPS, and which I used last season at Encounters as is this season's GM, has become a sort of a hybrid of the two. We set up the minis so that everyone starts off with a good idea of the relative positions of all...
Since I've been using OpenOffice since it was called StarOffice and its various components were all integrated (like MS Works was 20 years ago), I am very well-acquainted with Writer and Calc (which I've used to make all of my roleplaying aids), but know next to nothing about Draw and Base, so...
Since we only play D&D at Encounters we play it by RAW, but apply the GM's brain to it. Take for example the fight with four bandits who had captured a bear in chapter 1 of Princes of the Apocalypse. Our druid froze the hinges so the bear could free itself. It mauled two of them, dragging one...
I can always get behind attempts to trade linear dice rolls for curves (even if those curves are simple Vs). GURPS use of 3d6 in its core mechanic is a huge part of why we love it so much. The dice gawds generally hate me, which is why my major complaint about HackMaster is that it requires...
I have just uploaded Customizable Minimalist Character Sheet to the downloads area.
Every official character sheet I've ever seen had one major flaw: it was never suitable for every character the game could make. Mages need spell space, fighters have lots of weapons, gadgeteers have lots of...

Whenever I used a brutal weapon in 4e I simply changed the math to remove the reroll. Once again my chronic pain issues ruled my life. I remember having something that was 1d10 brutal 2, so the GM let me roll 1d8+2 instead. Heck of a lot easier.
