I currently do something similar in my game. It is based on the Generic Classes (and other rules) from Unearthed Arcana (2004). I use arcane and divine paths for the mage class and you can take class features as you see to customize the divine path to fit a druid or cleric as you prefer. The...
Agreed, except for me it was in reverse. I had the 3.0 books and finally picked up a stable group of players for a game. At the time, I was the only one with copies of the 3.0 books. They wanted copies of the PH to learn some of the rules on their own time, so they bought what was available...
These classes are the core (though possibly without the Rogue or Cleric if classes are built modularly). The rest are specializations or combinations of these. The races are the essentials for fantasy gaming, other races are just gravy.
Yes, I should have elaborated on that. It is totally a flavor issue for me. The wizard thing has been to maintain a spellbook and collect or research spells as part of either downtime or adventures. It's one of those divine vs. arcane issues as I see it. As you said, the funds quickly make...

Guys, the article in question was actually the second in the series. The first was "unofficial" on the blog, the second was "official" on the WotC site. The article on the WotC site now appears to be gone, but I am wondering if it is a matter of not doing proper translation of the old URL or...
I happen to agree. I like the Trailblazer versions of the classes better than the Pathfinder ones and I like many of the rule revisions over similar changes made by Pathfinder. This is the best $4.95 I have ever spent on a gaming product.
