Best rules for a space trading game?

Thanks for all the good advice. I plan on making land-based adventures non-existent. By limiting the interactions to trading and space-based combat, it should give players a limited set of skills to focus on developing.

    Metagaming's Minigames as PDFs?

Hello. I have been reading "Designers & Dungeons" (great book) and am ending up with a mental list of 1970s RPGs and boardgames that I wish I had been alive to play back then. Many of the classics are no available as PDFs. I have not been able to find Metagaming's Minigames however. I am...

Best rules for a space trading game?

I mostly play D&D (BECMI/1E/2E). I am used to having combat mostly be a party arrayed in some kind of formation exchanging blows (one dice roll per turn) with opponents. If in a space game each player has a weapon position targeting opponents, it is pretty much the same. If each weapon were...

Best rules for a space trading game?

Does this partially come down to how ship flying and combat work? If you have a single character who is the lone pilot, navigator and gunner, everyone else takes a backseat. If the ship has tasks equal to the number of players, everyone has something to do. For example, the pilot handles...

Classic D&D of All Eras Back In Print

I am also sad for the hoarders. :) I haven't seen PDFs lower prices, but new prints should do the job. My theory is that no one WANTS to sell their books. So, when their significant others push them to downsize, the post their kit for sale at outrageous prices and then say "sorry, dear, no...

Best rules for a space trading game?

I agree that simulating an economy won't make the game better. Shipping some gold from a to b affecting currency prices ... oh look, everyone left. :) In the past, I have had fun playing computer games like Wing Commander Privateer where you fly missions (delivery, beat down some pirates...

Best rules for a space trading game?

Thanks. Also ... argh! I have been reading "Designers & Dragons" about the history of the RPG industry lately. Limited-duration licenses killing games and limiting access to classics is a recurring, frustrating theme in the hobby.

    Class Building Guide?

I know you asked for 2E, but here is a link to an excellent BECMI class building tool I have used a lot: http://www.pandius.com/custclas.html

Best rules for a space trading game?

Thanks. I cannot find that one online. No PDFs on DTRPG or its own site, and Mongoose is sold out of the core rules. I'll have to keep my eyes open for the game on ebay and amazon.

Best rules for a space trading game?

Thanks for all of the suggestions, and taking the time to write that up. What does 'GTFT' stand for? (Google's suggestions were far off the mark.)

Best rules for a space trading game?

I would like to run a space-trading campaign. One where the players buy ships, travel, and buy and sell commodities while upgrading their ship and perhaps either fending off pirates or committing piracy of their own. I am looking for a relatively lightweight set of rules, but ones that include...

    Class Building Guide?

The 2E DMG had a guide. It wasn't exact though - if you used it to create the 'core' classes, they ended up costing more XP/level. This means that any class built using those guidelines would be at a disadvantage to a 'core' class.
