I'm having a love affair with GUMSHOE

I think Trail of Cthulhu is a worthwhile purchase. That said, for me it ended up being more of an idea mine for running Call of Cthulhu (i.e., BRP) in a more "Trail-like" fashion (i.e., rather than running Trail..., itself).

    Being Chased in a Maze

I don't get all this talk of special mechanics for a maze chase. I don't think you need anything special. You need something to fear that prompts flight. You need the maze. And you need movement rates. Something to Fear -- I imagine the OP already has this one covered. But my suggestion...

Graphic Artist Copies Wayne Reynolds art for Rush Limbaugh newsletter

Can't say I prefer either one: they net out about the same, for me.

    The waterfall plummets 1000 feet...

Some cool places I've been that made me think of D&D: Kilauea (crater/caldera, lava tubes, etc) Pali Lookout (where King Kamehameha drove his enemies over a 1000 ft. cliff) Cave diving (Spitting Caves) Marvel Cave Cave of the Winds/Pike's Peak Grand Canyon Fujiyama Kyoto/Castles Masada/Herod's...

I think I've lost my way.

I discovered that you *can* go back, and have it be more than just mere nostalgia. So that's my advice. If you long for the kind of game you ran back in the day, then run that kind of game, again. The rules are still available. There are as many modules and as much support for TSR D&D at...

Cover Art for D&D v3.5 Reprint

Yeah, that would be cool. Unlike 1e AD&D, there's not much love for the original D&D art and layout, either. They could do a single-volume hardcover that includes the content of the LBBs and the Supplements (i.e. no rule changes) with new art and layout. The tricky thing would be getting...

Which D&D edition do you *really* prefer?

Original D&D or 1e AD&D, for me. I can't really pick just one. And besides, there's a lot of AD&D in my OD&D, and a lot of OD&D in my AD&D.

    Menzoberranzan is Editionless... Good move?

I don't play 4e and I'm not interested, but I'm not interested because it's Menzoberranzan. If it were some other crunch free product, I might be more interested.

I'm Sick Of...(D&D tropes that you can do without)

    Elves. Halflings/Kender/Tinker-Gnomes/Etc. "Scottish" Dwarves.

To Kill or Not to Kill (PCs): That is the Question...

Uh, I think you took my post far too literally. Obviously the DM can screw up or screw the players. But in general, I think most DMs try to be fair, and I don't think it's really that hard or that big a deal.

    City-States

I'm not sure about a dark age city-state. Populations in the dark ages were surprisingly small (at least in Europe), and the economic and military organization wasn't what I think of as "city-state." For classical city-states (e.g. Classical Greek city-states), the research is difficult, but...

To Kill or Not to Kill (PCs): That is the Question...

As DM, I let the dice fall where they may. But I don't kill PCs -- their success (and life) or failure (and death) is all on their shoulders. They get the credit, or take them blame.

Gary Gygax co-written Unpublished Setting. Bonus Stretch Goal for Kickstarter!

Man, that's too bad. I'd like to see a well-done edition of Lejendary Adventure, and I know you like the system and would treat it right.

Would D&D be better off in the public domain?

I think the hobby carries the industry, rather than the industry carrying the hobby. I don't think the disappearance of D&D as a brand would significantly change demand for tabletop RPGs. The current pool of gamers would continue on with whatever system tickled their fancy, and they would...

Would D&D be better off in the public domain?

I'm content with the current situation. I play TSR D&D, so I'm just not terribly concerned with what WotC and Hasbro are doing. If Hasbro shut down WotC and mothballed the D&D brand it wouldn't affect my D&D gaming at all. The OGL insures that as long as there are people interested in playing...
