D&D 5E Game jargon causing unwanted consequences

One thing I noticed is that the language for opportunity attacks specifically mentions the trigger being "a hostile creature that you can see moves out of your reach". That means that a creature can literally dance around opponents at-will without triggering an opportunity attack. Not sure if...

Anybody played the latest Lair Assault yet?

There's a requirement? I'm not sure what that is. I kept getting hit by an attack, and it gave me the dominated condition, save ends. And I'd often get stuck in his aura, which made me roll twice for saving throws and take the worst result. I'm not sure how much of it was bad luck and how...

Anybody played the latest Lair Assault yet?

Technically Our group ran out of time at 20 rounds, and I spent most of my time sitting around doing nothing because the priest had me perma-dominated. Teaches me for having a 19 Will Defense, but it still wasn't very fun. Dominate: Touch the pillar. Dominate: Touch the pillar again...

D&D 5E The new exploration rules, discussion

A good assessment overall and I agree with your conclusion.

D&D 5E The new exploration rules, discussion

Well I'm expecting that the rules will lose some complexity. I think Mearls noted that the first iteration of a new rules module is always going to be the most complex one, yes? And I expect "dials" to hopefully be part and parcel of the package. We've supposedly still got three complexity...

D&D 5E The new exploration rules, discussion

My initial thoughts on the system I think they're a great first pass, though a little too complicated and a little sketchy in certain areas. I'm coming from the basis of familiarity with the rules in B/X D&D, though. The "pace" thing seems overly complex and unnecessary, and yet also too...

Sorry. Gallows humour isn't for everyone.

More likely they celebrated a successful raid.

Rogues - what do you do against undead and constructs?

I endorse this message. Either back out and regroup, getting more appropriate weaponry (fire and holy water are good) and backup ("we need a war party of clerics to see us through the necropolis! Who's with us?") or go the long way round.

    OotS #467

Amen. What did we learn today, kids? Heh heh. It was a funny comic, and an interesting little digression about losing and retreating in RPGs.

    Monster Manuals no more

That's a horrendously offensive statement. At the time I posted last, I was thinking specifically of myself circa 14 years old, when I first got ahold of an Advanced Dungeons & Dragons book, and started after WEG Star Wars books soon after, because I loved the movies. Taken as the words are...

    Monster Manuals no more

It doesn't "seem to assume." It states explicitly in the required materials to play section that you need Star Wars collectible miniatures. Sure, you can play without them. But that's not RAW. (and while my tongue was firmly in cheek in my last post, I only wish I was kidding about this.)

    Monster Manuals no more

Sure they should! How else are they going to get you to buy the same product over and over and over and over again? I mean, Star Wars Minis are required for the new Saga edition, and they're only to be found in booster packs and the like, officially. Unofficially there's GM Sarli and other...

4 player 1st level character standard vs. 1 4th level character

You might not even need a gestalt build, with the right (read: tailor-suited) adventures. If the PC's a fighter, then don't throw traps or magic puzzles at her, and that sort. Gestalt is probably the easier solution, of course. As for the dearth of actions; that's a good observation. Would...
