I am writing up a Half-Elf Cleric/ Ranger with a Con of 17. How do I calculate the hit points?
I know that I divide the roll from the hit dice in half. The question is do I add the Con bonus before or after I divide the roll?
Thank you all- you've given me some great answers and a lot to think about. I will probably keep it simple and let magic work normally, the exception being that fire spells do half damage.
Thanks Again-

What are the rules, if any, regarding underwater spellcasting? I have looked through the books and couldn't find anything on the subject. Am I just missing something?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Sthrad von Zarovich. (2ed)
I Dm'd a campaign from (levels 1-12) where he was the mastermind behind almost every encounter the PCs had. at first the PC's were just annoying but as they grew in power, so did Sthrad's interest in them.
When they finally met up with him the final battle was epic...
My son(16) and I are looking for a family friendly game in the IA/IL Quad Cites area. I have been playing since 1972 with experience in all editions while my son has only played a few 3.5 games. Both of us are eager to get into a 5e game if possible but older editions are good also.

OK, let me see if I got this straight. The Artificer (Alchemist) automatically hits the surface, object or creature he targets with the alchemical concotion but then imposes an all or nothing Dex save for damage?
Seems weird to me, but ok.

First, they don't all impact a location. Alchemists Acid specifically states that the target is a creature or object While Alchemists Fire says you can target a surface, it also clearly states you can target a object or creature as well.
Second, why wouldn't you need an attack roll for thrown...
I am writing up a Gnome Artificer (Alchemist) for an upcoming campaign and ran into a question in search of an answer. Are Alchemists proficient with their alchemical creations? Do they get their proficiency bonus when throwing Alchemical Fire at a targrt?
The Gunsmith archetype clearly states...
I wouldn't
Letting the players know the vulnerabilities and resistances of the monsters leads to meta-gaming. It is almost impossible to not use that knowledge one you have it. Let the characters learn it on their own, that's half the fun of encountering a new monster.

I'm thinking of running a Gnome Artificer and was wondering if anyone has played one yet? If so how does it handle in play and how does it stack up to the other wizard traditions?
Thanks-
