The Odyssey System -- Stripped-down Hot Rod d20 rules

Well, they would have to sneak up on the big bad to do that, and hopefully by fighting through all the minions he would know they were coming..... I dunno... I got nothing.... but something like that would be nice. david

The Odyssey System -- Stripped-down Hot Rod d20 rules

Occupation + Talent Trees sounds awesome. That would do it for me! I agree that in a pulp-y game (and that would include such modern fare as Die Hard and 24) the Heroes should be able to do quite a bit without having to spend skill points. As long as there's some "niche protection" (a termed...

The Odyssey System -- Stripped-down Hot Rod d20 rules

This almost seems like it goes back to Non-Weapon Proficiencies. I thought skills were an improvement over NWP... but I do understand that somepeople assumed if you didn't have points in a skill, you couldn't do it. With FASERIP style talents (or even NWP/Feats) this would indicate those things...

The Odyssey System -- Stripped-down Hot Rod d20 rules

I don't like SWSE's skill system. You mentioned Spycraft 2.0... I really like that consolodated skill set... makes it much easier, but still allows customization. In fact, I use that skill set in my current game which is Thrilling Tales/Mars (both from some company called Adam... something). I...

    Buying Feats with XP

In all my games, characters have had the option to purchase feats for 4 skill points. I may change that to 5 when I play again, because Open Minded sets the ratio at 5:1. so, if you have 5 skill points and would rather have a feat, you can buy it that way. You must already fulfill the pre-reqs...

    Deathbed Speeches

I would just say that, "if you have something to say" when the battle is over, "you can say it, but no one can stop you from dying during this period, this is a deathbed speech". Don't need a rule, just do it. david

    E6: The Game Inside D&D

Yes, after seeing this post (I was introduced to it at RPG.net, cause I missed it over here) I saw that it was what I wanted to have happen with my "rules". After reading the follow up posts I realized that characters could advance any aspect of their character sheet with feats that already...

    E6: The Game Inside D&D

I immediately began thinking of higher level spells as being the dark mysterious, things man was not meant to know, found in books in long lost libraries. But, these spells would have to be cast in ritual, which is a pretty traditional fantasy staple. If a group of casters can cast spells at...

    E6: The Game Inside D&D

Class point buy system I had tried to do something like this myself. I was never able to test it, but it broke down to characters being 9-10th level and then only advancing bit by bit. It was created for a PBEM where I've noticed advancing is slow, so I did this. While the characters may...
