Post Apocalypse: Omega World and Barbarians of the Ruined Earth feedback

Looking for game feedback from any GMs or players that have actually played: Omega World by Jonathan Tweet or Barbarians of the Ruined Earth by Mike Evans Trying to decide between the two to hopefully run 3 adventures with.

Moral Dilemma: Killing and Deaths in RPGs

S'mon I'm in the same mode of thinking as your son and Gygax/Arneson of recruiting or aligning NPC villains to assist your parties goal or quest. The last D&D game I played in as a player, Tyranny of Dragons, I tried to persuade all the main NPC adversaries to switch sides and aid the party to...

Moral Dilemma: Killing and Deaths in RPGs

Uzirath great post and approach to introducing young students to RPGs. I'm also excited about @Grendel_Khan suggestion of Scum and Villainy. I went ahead and ordered that to read and play as well.

Moral Dilemma: Killing and Deaths in RPGs

Thanks BrokenTwin. I've spent the days since the original post exploring the RPG suggestions along with some other reviews and have compiled a good list of very low-combat and non-combat RPG options. The next step is finding the right players to play with.

Moral Dilemma: Killing and Deaths in RPGs

Kobold Stew thank you for the feedback and suggestion to check out Spirit of the Century. The setting and idea for the game are right up my alley of what I'm looking for. Love that your kid spent the time to make you FATE-based versions of the characters from Planet of the Apes as a Father's Day...

Moral Dilemma: Killing and Deaths in RPGs

Yora that is a great approach to looking at adventures and humanoids. If you take the XP and advancement away from slaying everything the players focus shifts to where the cumulative rewards are earned to advance their characters. Thanks for that insight and the reminder of what the focus was of...

Moral Dilemma: Killing and Deaths in RPGs

Great suggestions payn. I have had rewarding memorable game moments with those fantasy RPG friends. But I'll study up an do a more thorough search for the right type of players for that next RPG I decide on. I'll also keep it to short adventures to gauge interest in running something long term.

Moral Dilemma: Killing and Deaths in RPGs

Thanks overgeeked for all the comments, advice and recommendations. I will take a good look at all your RPG suggestions. I'm a huge fan of Numenera and the Cyper System. I was a player in a long running campaign and had a blast. My problem has been finding and keeping players interested in...

Moral Dilemma: Killing and Deaths in RPGs

Ixal I am looking for RPG systems suggestion with much less combat/killing. Something where combat/killing is option D after A, B and C ideas don't work out. I'm not opposed to combat. I don't want it to be the go to first and second option every time. Problem solving where the only solution is...

Moral Dilemma: Killing and Deaths in RPGs

Umbran good advice. I was approached this summer by a friend with a group of 12 year olds who wanted to learn to play Dungeons & Dragons after watching Stranger Things. The friend/parent asked if I would show the four kids how to play. I thanked them, but turned them down. After looking through...

Moral Dilemma: Killing and Deaths in RPGs

Jmarso I think you hit it on the head with XP. The default model in RPGs and video games for years has been the more creatures or enemies you slay the more XP you gain to advance or level up. It gets hardwired into your mind after hours and years of playing Which comes back to the type of RPG...

Moral Dilemma: Killing and Deaths in RPGs

BookTenTiger I have encountered the same thing with players. In the last two years I have consciously tried a more non-lethal approach to combat encounters. I have had monsters retreat. I have had creatures flee. I have had monster and villains surrender. I even brought back Morale checks. But...
