Gargantuan Dragon Mini - Awesome 17+ inches long!

I recently picked a trinket box of a dragon produced by a company called Nemesis Now.

The sculpting of the dragon is of such high quality that it can be used as a miniature.

Here are some of this mini's pros and cons:

Pros
  • Size: It's gargantuan. The mini measures 10.5 inches long but that's because its tail is curved round and its neck is bent. If it were stretched out, it would measure over 17 inches long. From snout to base of tail, it's over 8 inches long which, IIRC, is gargantuan according to the MM. The mini next to it is for scale; it's a plastic cleric by Games Workshop.
  • Price: Only £15 (about US$27) including VAT.
  • Quality: It's very well sculpted and fairly well cast out of resin.
  • Painted: It's carefully painted by hand. It will take more paint if you want to change its colour.
  • Functional: As well as being a mini, it's also a trinket box. So you can put dice etc inside.
Cons :\
  • Base: The base is quite thick at 3/8 inch and patterned. It would have looked better with a thinner, plainer base.
  • Wings: Although the mini is generally well sculpted, the wings seem implausibly small.
  • Pose: It's quite a passive pose. I would have preferred it attacking. When I pop this baby on the gaming table, I don't want my players to just pass out - I want them to have heart attacks!
  • Functional: Although you can't see it in the pic, there's a slight gap along the dragon's body where the lid of the trinket box meets the box itself.
Despite its shortcomings, this is still an awesome mini at a great price.

Any questions or comments?

Well holy hornswaggles, Batman! I'll be greased and fried, that's a nice mini! The little pose problem you mentioned is actually easy to overcome - use it for metallic or gem dragons, ones that are (more) unlikely to attack. More likely to serve as NPCs.

That's a good idea but I still feel that it's a shame that a mini that's so maxi isn't going to give my players cardiac arrests when I say "As you enter the enormous cave you see..." and place my mini a few inches away from theirs. Bwahahaha!

I just love the irony that large size is an asset in a miniature. It's a *Huuuuuge* mini! Look how big it is! :)
