"Yes... I suppose you're right. If you think he will be safe here..." says Pieter reluctantly, as he kneels down next to Vindar.

"Vindar... it's me, Pieter. We are NOT leaving you here to your fate. We WILL be back for you. Do you understand, Vindar? We WILL be back for you." he says firmly, hoping that something gets through to the poor man's fractured mind.

"May the might of Typhon keep you from harm." he says quietly, dropping his head and closing his eyes briefly before getting to his feet.

"Let me try on that armour you have found, and we will see how good it fits. Perhaps Typhon still has plans for me after all. I will do my best to aid your cause and avenge my fallen allies."

[OOC: Pieter will accept the 'kitbashed' armour and the iron spit which the search turned up if they are offered]

Gargrim tries another approach, "How 'bout we get this man back home to some comforts? I'd rather we eat tavern meat we can trust rather than the not familiar meats of kobolds and goblins. Who knows what they did with his legs, not to scare him more ye know. Help me carry the poor sod."

OOC: Is it possible for us to return home? I can't remember from the quick scanning of previous posts.

"I'm good with whatever everyone else wants to do. I do enjoy watching you eat bug's legs, though, Midgrim. I'll miss that."

OOC: the only exit you have actually found is the stairs... Getting Vindar out that way would be a challenge. If you tried to retrace Pieters steps you could likely find your way to the red doors, but the route isn't 100% clear.

Midgrim has just begun nodding heartfelt relief at Pieter's good sense when Gargrim spoke up...

"I'm assuming Typhon's paying for all this 'comfort'?" the rotund dwarf grumbles before casually wiping that away: "And how are we going ta get him across the cliffside? He panics and whoever's carrying him is a goner..." The secret, dwarven Cliffside entrance to boot... "No, it's sad but listen to the human, brother: it's his brother and he's seen the right of it, I'm thinking."

OOC: The Cliffside exit is a horizontal trek across a sheer cliff face using semi-camouflaged foot and handholds.

OOC: Got no problems heading back to town myself, but Midgrim's not seeing the added value there, I'm afraid. :)

"No, I... I think you're right. Perhaps if we can retrace our steps to the Red Door, we can come back for him and get him out that way. He's in no state to be taken on dangerous mountain paths and cliffs. But please, let us hurry and clear the way for him - you've already seen what being in this place has done to his mind." says Pieter.

"What do you suppose waiting here for us to return, or maybe not return, will do to his mind?"

"Nothing worse than what's already happened ta it," concludes Midgrim after a considered look Vingar's way. He claps his beefy, armored thighs and gets up: "So that's the plan then? Clear the caves around here, make sure the kobolds won't be coming back ta bother anybody, then back out through the Red Doors. Aye?"

<That work for everybody?>

If so:
"But first, let's get yee that armor, Pieter the Human." He looks about, picking up the kobolds roasting spit: "And here, until we find yee something better ta hit things with."

Without all that pesky blood coming out (or whatever it is his god doesn't like about good, clean edges).

OOC: If all are in agreement, Midgrim will head back to the entrance room, him and Gagrim picking up anything they might need for the armor-making from the bodies on the way over.

OOC2: He'll also get an exact count of the dwarven statues in the next room for future reference, please Imperialus.

Vindar scarcely seems to react as you leave the room, just watching you with a dead eyed stare, but as the last of you enter the next room you hear a blood curdling howl from behind. It goes on for a several seconds before quieting down.

As you return to the hidden entrance you recover the chainmail from the dead woman's (who Pieter remembers being named Rayna) body. Pieter pulls it over his head so that Midgrim can get an idea of how it might need to be resized, but it falls over his shoulders as though a professional armourer had constructed it to his exact measurements. There are a few popped links from where the arrows killed Rayna, and of course it chafes like hell since the padded gambson underneath did not resize, but other than that the armour feels as though it was tailor made. The shield that she was using is battered beyond use however, and her weapon is missing as well.

OOC: It's a suit of +1 chain. Pieter, your improvised club does 1d4 damage, but if you use two hands it does 1d6. So which room are you going to continue the exploration from? I reattached the map so you could re-orient since it's been a while. You're currently in room 30, and Midgrim's theory is that Room 23 might match up with Pieter's map.

Gargrim says, "I feel bit bad about the crazy feller. Let's finish cutting up a path so we can go back and get him out of here proper." Gagrim takes the lead into the next room.

OOC: We are looking to get a better way to the surface than room 30, right? That way we can take Vindar out of here?
