Extrapolating Character Generation info from the Pre-Gens

Wow. Thanks for the insight. That is a lot more in depth than I expected it to be.

Extrapolating Character Generation info from the Pre-Gens

Yeap, I just have not had the time since last night to hammer it out.

Extrapolating Character Generation info from the Pre-Gens

The sheets don't say what the ability score modifiers are. However, if the same array is used for all characters, that shouldn't be so hard to figure out. Now that you mention it, when I called the DM Hotline, the guy did say that the Mountain Dwarf gets a +1 to heavy armor, hence why he has a...

Extrapolating Character Generation info from the Pre-Gens

Has anyone tried to deconstruct the the current Pre-gens so that you could play a human fighter or an elven wizard? My group has had me thinking about this. So far, what we know is that Humans: +1 to every ability score; an additional +1 to an ability score of their choice.* Dwarves: Dwarven...

    Are You Still Playtesting?

We have played the hell out of D&D Next... many times. We have kind of run into a wall without character creation rules. Therefore, we are not really running too many Next sessions until we can get some character creation rules.

Playtest Report: Portal Under the Stars

Thanks. I do like the flatter math. I am no fan of when a player of a 3rd level character says "+30 vs. AC". I am not making this up. It actually happened during last season of Encounters.

    D&D 5E Our 5 Session Playtest

Ah, I didn't think of that. Good call. I will have to remember the hindrance on HD, cumulative with disadvantage somehow. Excellent! I really like how this works. I am planing on a lot of overland travel so keeping track of food, water, and supplies is something I am looking to figure out.

Playtest Report: Portal Under the Stars

Thanks. First, I was introduced to D&D with the Holmes Blue Box. I have been exposed to and played every edition of D&D since. Some of my players have started with 3e or even just 4e and have never been exposed to the "theater of the mind" style of D&D. It is quite interesting and comforting...

Playtest Report: Portal Under the Stars

Playtest Game 06/04/2012 I ran a playtest game with four players. The characters they choose were: Dwarf Fighter Dwarf Cleric of Moradin Halfling Rogue Elven Wizard SPOILER ALERT: I am using Goodman Games DCC module from Free RPG Day last year. The first adventure in that book is "Portal...

    D&D 5E Our 5 Session Playtest

Excellent work, Connorsrpg. Thanks for taking the time to write up your session. I am two behind on mine. I love wilderness exploration so I will ask, how did you handle supplies like rations and encumbrance? In 4e Dark Sun if you are familiar with it, there are survival days. Since next...

    Playtesting Coup De Grace

I do too. That is the kind of thing that makes D&D so great. They should have been detected and engaged with one overpowered foe. But, call it luck or the favor of the gods, they did what seemed impossible. Although from the metagame view, it was so simplistic and happened so fast that I though...

    Playtesting Coup De Grace

Yes, I agree. Plus don't forget that sleeping is the unconscious condition. In one of our playtest games, the ogre was asleep (unconscious) in his den. IIRC, he had a lot of HP. With a crappy WIS roll on his part to awaken and two excellent sneak rolls on the part of two halfling rogues, they...

    How should humans be human?

Valid point, indeed. Bolded for emphasis. Things like the immunities are light in mechanics on the surface view, easy to remember, and give that race the flavor it needs. I actually could see ditching bonuses altogether, (but possibly have the -1 penalty as mentioned to the races except human)...

    How should humans be human?

In the friends and family play test, humans had something called human expertise. They were allowed to roll a d6 and add it to any dice roll they wanted. They could do this twice a day. Our players loved it. I have no idea why it was abandoned. It worked perfectly because for the first time in...

    D&D 5E Armor in D&DNext

I have to agree. I am not one of these guys that get crazy for historical accuracy, but I did see a documentary about knights fighting in full armor. The way armor was crafted, it did not slow them down at all. Granted, they needed assistance getting on the mount and such, but either fighting...

    South Jersey (Burl. Co.) Gamers

Well, it is several years later. I have moved to Hamilton in Mercer County. I play Encounters at the local hobby store, Family Fun Hobbies on Route 33. I am still interested in playing OD&D. Are any of you guys still here on EN World?

Off to see the Wizards: The day that WotC showed me D&D 5th Edition

What if they rebooted the Realms all the way back to the gray box... (kind of like the Star Trek movie). ;)

Off to see the Wizards: The day that WotC showed me D&D 5th Edition

I am concerned about the statement about art from China. Magic the Gathering type art does not appeal to me as much as organic old fashion drawings that you find from the classic artists, like Dee and Trampier. Art actually does mean a lot to me, and many of my fellow older edition friends. I...

Creating a character the old fashion way

That's pretty much why we are keeping our stuff down to what's in HotFL and HotFK... and maybe a few small things from Dragon Magazine like the Earth Domain. And Yes, Character Builder can make us lazy, but still mighty useful. :)

Creating a character the old fashion way

Abstruse, thanks for the reminder. I needed to go to the Compendium, not the character builder. I can get all the crunchy bits there. :)
