D&D 5E [Gaming Aids] Sound effects

I have an app on my iPad and iPhone called DMDJ. It's relatively cheap and has both music, ambient sounds, and various sound effects. I don't use it all the time, but when I do it definitely can add to the game.

    D&D 5E Eberron popularity in 5E

I'd much rather have monster manuals or players options long before a setting was made. From what I've seen of SCAG, it's a waste of my money. And I'm certainly not interested in Eberron.

D&D 5E How many gamers ACTUALLY play in AL?

I don't play AL. I have a regular group and even if I didn't have that I doubt I would play AL. I'm in my 40s and the majority of those playing AL are half my age or younger. This makes things difficult simply because I'm turning into a grumpy old man. I'm set in my ways of D&D, and they're...kids.

    D&D 5E World-Building DMs

It depends. The DM is free to make whatever kind of world they choose. The players are free to walk away from the table if they don't like the way the game works. I've made worlds where certain races/classes are not allowed or are dangerous to play, and my players are generally ok with that...

D&D 5E What settings would you like to see full support for?

I'd rather they support FR barely, and everything else is aimed to making it easier for homebrew campaigns. I'm not likely to buy SCAG, and any other settings books I won't buy. Dark Sun was fun for the books, but not to play in. Eberron...never. Mystara was fun back when I played BECMI but...

    D&D 5E Halfling's Unluck

I have a guy in my group who rolls 1s so flippin' often it feels like Lucky is a broken ability. As a DM, it destroys my evil glee...

D&D 5E Who Uses This House Rules?

No, that's the weakened rust monster that appeared in 4E. The real original rust monsters outright destroyed metal with a single hit. Then in 2E they added the lovely bit about any metal striking them also rusted.

D&D 5E Who Uses This House Rules?

I'll explain that science to you once you explain the physics of how spells work, how beholder eye rays work, dragons breathe fire, and so on.

D&D 5E Who Uses This House Rules?

The continued weakening of rust monsters makes me sad. Someone should make a Greater Rust Monster or Rust Monster Queen that makes the party cry.

D&D 5E What would be your ideal 5E yearly product output?

I would like 1 core-type book a year, such as a monster manual or campaign world. They can release however many modules they want, but I'm not interested.

D&D 5E [+] What are your favorite things about 5e?

Math? What math? Ad/Disad and the removal tons of buff spells, modifiers, beginning of round stuff, end of round stuff, and so on that made each...and every...single...turn...take so blooming long.

D&D 5E What to do if a player keeps reading the adventures

I had a player do that before in Marvel Superheroes. So I made changes on the fly to things he remembered to nullify his gains. "Found the Iron Man armor? Nice...interesting how you knew to look in such a specific spot. Well anyway, since you're not human and Tony Stark was, it doesn't respond...

D&D 5E How often do you fake it as a DM?

I wing it as needed. There are nights when I'm "off", and sometimes those lead to something interesting or a forgetful night where I decide I need to improve, and sometimes, take a break from DMing for a week.

D&D 5E Down to six pages of prep work

If you count actual prep time and work, probably 1 hour per session. Now contemplating about certain aspects of the game, that's mostly not on paper unless I write notes, such as thinking about how an idea might impact the campaign, well that accounts for many more hours of time but that's...

D&D 5E Dungeons and Dragons and the RPG Stigma

I've met several doctors, both younger and older than myself. One thing that around 50% have in common is they're self-important know-it-alls. In their view, if it's unimportant to them, it should be unimportant to everyone else. They work hard, put in a lot of hours of work per week, and have...

    D&D 5E What is Elite in 5E?

Elite in 5E is not a special distinction, but more of a relative view point from the PCs' perspective. If 2 of a certain monster is an equal fight to the party's ability, that would probably be considered elite (YMMV).

D&D 5E I believe a slow and light product release can cause more harm in the long run.

Everything was laid out; restrictions, special rules, DM expectations, the kind of campaign, etc. Two weeks later, "I'm not happy with my rogue. I feel he could do more. I'd like to make change XYZ to work better." Me: "Sorry but no. This is how I wanted the campaign to be. That was how it was...

D&D 5E I believe a slow and light product release can cause more harm in the long run.

I'm probably among the most restrictive DM around. Ask my group. Saying no is easy. But saying no every dang week? It's easier said than done. You want your players to be happy, so a "just this once" is uttered by you. And that opens the floodgates. Everyone wants this one feat, or this cool...
