    TORMENT - Tides of Numenera

If Planescape: Torment had been a financial success then there would have been a sequel. Further, numerous articles claim that it wasn't really a commercial success at the time. I believe that Kickstarter has changes the equation. If Torment: Tides of Numenera raises $4+ million and is only...

    TORMENT - Tides of Numenera

There is a lot written about Torment (from the Planescape game angle). Most mention something like, "Met with critical (but not commercial) success, Planescape: Torment is probably the best role-playing game you've never heard of."...

    Something Awful leak.

It is a natural human tendency! Humans copy the world around them. Birds can fly so people invented airplanes (hey, now we can fly like birds). Plus hang gliders, kites, helicopters, rockets, hovercraft, blimps, hot air balloons, and (conceptually) flying saucers. If an animal or D&D monster...

    The Utility of Class Rarity

Wizards of the Coast introduced rarity for magic items in 4e. Wasn't it almost entirely for Organized Play purposes? Perhaps rarity for classes would have some impact on what you can play in OP. Since I'm not interested in Living Greyhawk, that would have no impact on my games.

    Something Awful leak.

I may or may not like the current state of the Wizards of the Coast playtest rules for 5e but the biggest benefit of releasing the Official Playtest now (sooner than later) is stamping out internet trolls. Fear of the unknown is worse by far than any set of bad rules, no matter how bad. Rampant...

I think you peeps are not thinking about+n swords properly!

Speaking as a player, "I don't want +N weapons in the game that mean I have to seek out loot to keep up with the Jones".

Highest total bonus at level one to a d20 roll

I'll assume for a second that stats will continue to be +1 for a 12 and +5 for a 20: Untrained in your worst stat? -1 skill check (8 strength) Untrained in your best stat? +4 skill check (18 strength) A five (5) point span is a 25 percentage point gap on a 1d20 roll. Training is going to make...

    Leveling up Monsters

I always thought it was fun and interesting to add class levels to monsters but it requires PC math=monster math (which can be a problem). 4e never quite captured the feeling of character levels on monsters for me (class templates just didn't seem to convey the feeling of the class and...

D&D 5E The math of D&D Next; a moderating proposal

In 2e the fighter gets -1 to THAC0 at every level after 1st which would translate to +0 BAB through +19 BAB (1/1). The priest gets +2 BAB per 3 levels above 1st (2/3). The gets +1 BAB per 2 levels (1/2). The wizard gets +1 BAB per 3 levels (1/3). In 3e you get +1 per level, +3 per 4 levels, and...

D&D 2E Should 5e use optional rules like 2e did?

I've played numerous D&D games with such "little" magic and it worked fine. If you go all-out low magic it takes a extra work but there is also the middle ground that is not high magic but still pretty easy.

Idle Musings: Inverted Interrupts, Focus Fire, and Combat Flow

Is focused fire a problem? Yes it is. The winning strategy for PCs, currently, is to focus fire. The winning strategy for monsters is, also, to focus fire. When the social compact is broken, and focused fire becomes easy/default, the game gets distorted. PCs have to be given enough hit points...

From specialization to diversification: Choice & playing a fighter

In the OP you don't discuss 2e much but I think it is critical to understanding the weapon specialization proficiency or tendency. It was insanely awesome to use your weapon proficiency slots to go from this table... Table 15: WARRIOR MELEE ATTACKS PER ROUND (page 26, AD&D 2nd Edition)...

L'Odyssée de Cartier - YouTube Perhaps Wizards of the Coast should do a short film like this.

    Ability Dependency/Importance

Agreed. Ability scores are flavor. Ability scores represent skill checks. Some fighters are good at strength skill checks and others are good at dexterity skill checks. Thus, not every fighter is only skilled at strength tasks. Give weapons more variety by letting the weapon choice dictate...

    D&D 4E Simple 5e Healing that reconciles pre-4e and post-4e HP styles

The smallest change you can make to D&D hit points that will help people that "hate" warlords might look something like this: 1. Every character has HP - 1 = vitality points. Vitality equals luck and general energy level. Every character has 1 wound point. Only surgery, magic, or time can heal...

    Classes you play the most

AD&D 2e divided classes up into groups: Warrior, Wizard, Priest, and Rogue. I tried to divide the classes in the poll into these groups but I wasn't sure what would be the most appropriate fit for monk. Warriors Fighter Barbarian Ranger Paladin Warlord Wizards Mage Warlock Sorcerer Other...

D&D 5E Magic items in D&D Next: Remove them as PC dependant?

I, as a player, object to getting magic items. I don't want magic items in my game. I care more about my character determining my abilities than my "gun". I don't name my gun. The weapon is an extension of the wielder and has no value in itself.
