    Critital miss chart advice

..Perhaps by letting them turn the miss into a hit? Could be tempting when using a daily or encounter power.

    Bahamut and Tiamat

I agree with Will Doyle in regards to Tiamat sounding 'nasty' and was going to mention ambition too. I am not certain if it fits what you are going for, but "Active" (Tiamat) and "reactive/passive" (Bahamut) could be used to somewhat balance their negative and positive sounding words.

    Minor Action Controlled Companions!

I am interested in what made the fight range all over the map. Did the players do it on their own volition or was it because their opponents appeared all over the map?

Making money matter (forked from Abstracting Wealth)

I just wanted to mention (since I didn't see anyone bringing it up) that rituals are affected as well.

    One Encounter Per Day

Bah, the Internet ate my post. I take it that you have made a concious choice to let the players have all their powes available to them in every encounter, as you could simply redefine what a short and extended rest is (like Rechan mentioned). Just be careful as some daily powers can ruin...

Changing the meaning of Passive Perception and Insight => Suscipion rather than Facts

I always avoid comparing 2 static numbers against each other. Instead I deduct 10 from the DC and add a d20 roll. So at times the entire party might notice a badly disguised trap, other times it is too well hidden to find passively.

    A new spin on rituals

That was why I was coming back to this thread as well. It does shorten the adventuring day. The problem is coming up with a penalty that isn't harsh enough for the party to stop adventuring (like becoming dazed until an extended rest is taken), but a big enough deal for them to stop and consider...

    A new spin on rituals

Why not simply use Healing Surges to cast additional rituals? Also meshes well with the fiction if you see Wizards as being frail casters that are fatigued from casting too much.

    Group skill checks

I am looking for inspiration on how to do group skill checks where a single low roll penalizes the entire party (like stealth) and a single high roll benefits the entire party (such as perception). How do you handle checks such as these? Thanks in advance!

Actual play: my first "social only" session

In the first social skill challenge I ran (using Stalker0's Obsidian system), I stopped the challenge once the required successes had been achieved. When thinking about that later, it was clearly a mistake. It was not a natural stopping point and even if the group had achieved their goal, I...

D&D 4E Help me eliminate scaling from 4e!

Pitfalls.. I think hit points will give you the largest headache. Let's see what I can think of: I would be very careful with anything giving a permanent bonus to hit. Vanilla 4e gives you ½-level bonus to hit, and expects you to get the other half through feats, ability scores, magical items...

    Adding Class Templates to Monsters

The average damage is simply the average of 4d8 + 20, as you identified. So 4 times 4.5 (the average damage of a d8), plus 20. 38. :)

    Teleportation at level 1

How do you handle that certain races and classes are able to teleport at level 1? Are all prisons in your world protected with a way to nullify teleportation? What if you want a plot where the PC's are prisoners and have to come up with a plan for breaking out?

Dark Sun with different and less magic items

I think it is a good idea, but I am biased since I am giving 4e the same treatment. My changes are still a work in progress as I haven't explored all the effects of these changes, or how to correct them (I am split on how to deal with the critical bonus dice). One thing I haven't thought of yet...

    D&D 4E Fortune Telling in 4E

Hehe, that is really cool. If a character is very engaged in the fortune (either fully believing it is true or false), you could try to incorporate the fortune into the story. That will either solidify the character's opinion that fortunes are real, or make them consider changing their stance...

    D&D 4E Fortune Telling in 4E

I could see Raven being something akin to Intelligence or Wisdom. And it would be a nod to the 3.5 Raven familiar that was able to speak a single language. Hawk is tough as it is also very perceptive. Even though Owls can see in the dark, they are also considered very wise, so your best bet...

Help Me Spruce Up This Encounter Area!

I was thinking that a couple of homeless people (or stableboys?) could be sleeping in the hay and wake at the sound of battle. I don't know how your players and the NPC band of thieves are alignment-wise, but reactions to the fleeing innocents could range from ignoring them, to avoiding hitting...

How do you envision the game?

I think of 4e as being two games in one. In my mind combats are separate from the rest of the game. I still imagine the action, but roleplaying takes a backseat during combat and it becomes more of a tactical board game. It takes a little more interpretation to turn the mechanics into narrative...
