    D&D 4E Ron Edwards on D&D 4e

Yeah, I'm not going to lie, some of this went over my head due to lack of lore knowledge, ha. But, I basically agree that all the races have thematic hooks in 4e if you follow the lore they provide (which is why I said "I think the story they brought with it incorporated a lot of the heavy...

    D&D 4E Ron Edwards on D&D 4e

Thanks for the reply. This is kind of how I feel things go for all editions -some naturally stir up more conflict (Cleric, Paladin, Warlock, Tiefling, Aasimar) compared to others (Barbarian, Fighter, Rogue, Human, Halfling). I'm not sure that 4e mechanically brings anymore to the table on this...

    D&D 4E Ron Edwards on D&D 4e

In regards to theme, I have a serious question (and I might have missed it if you've already addressed it), but how much do you think this holds true if you sit down with the rules and homebrew a setting? I'm asking as that's not an uncommon occurrence in D&D. Heck, I did it in my 4e campaign...

@pemerton @Hussar @Campbell Whew, long nap. Okay, guys. What did I miss?

    Battlerager Vigor... by the book

It's not about your post. But because you have 15 posts on the front page that were made within the last week, I thought I'd request you consolidate it into one thread. But I can't police you, nor am I trying to. It was a simple request. Feel free to indulge or disregard, as you see fit.

    Battlerager Vigor... by the book

Hey man, any way to keep most of this to one thread? It feels like you're spamming this forum over the last week.

What level do you like your tabletop RPGs to allow you to achieve?

I said other. I like games with levels, but I also like games without levels (usually a form of point-buy, FFG Star Wars, Mutants and Masterminds, etc.). I also can't say I like a cap on leveling up at all, either through levels or XP / points, which is why I chose "other." I don't really care...

    D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

It definitely had those problems. But I think it's weird that you associate eliminating those problems with 4e. Not because 4e had them, but because eliminating those flaws (as well as many, many others) was a goal for my own homebrew, which was significantly based off of 3.X. But maybe you...

    Failing Forward

I'm getting mixed signals. Also, I tend to disagree with that. My first games as GM (when I was much younger) tended to be all improv, because I hadn't developed world building skills. And yet, I railroaded way more back then. I made stuff up on the fly, and forced a lot of it on my players...

Who's the best of the new Star Wars characters?

Rey was my favorite. She's obviously very powerful, self-reliant, incredibly fast at learning , and yet I don't think she's in Mary Sue territory. She gets scared. She runs. She is able to overcome those traits, but she still has weaknesses. And that makes for an interesting character. I think...

Link from "news" post to forum discussion thread?

I sympathize with both of you. I can't stand the news version of posts. At the same time, if I'm Morrus, what am I gonna do, spend money on stuff that bugs a tiny group of people? I wouldn't. Not a huge deal. It does stop me from reading a lot of news, though. (As does the lack of preview when...

    D&D 5E Warlord Name Poll

Hey, thanks for the invite, man. I'm out of the loop, though. I didn't even know there were warlord threads, much less that there was currently tension on it, or a sub forum. Heck, I barely visit the site these days, much less post. Out of your options, I like commander. If it's based on what I...

D&D 5E About Rolling for Ability Scores

Pretty civil so far, for a discussion we've had a billion times. Good on the posters here :) Note: I'm using my own RPG, not D&D 5e. I just started a group for four brand-new RPGers. When they wanted to generate stats, I offered them four choices: (1) Basic rolling method. It's my own, but...

    D&D 5E Downtime - Forced Conflict

I agree with this. In my one-shot superhero games, my players would totally buy in. My long term fantasy campaign, not so much. Same players, but different expectations. Just make sure they're okay with it. If they are, it could be a lot of fun. But it could really be rough if they don't like it.

    Military Retirees & Healthcare

No, it's not what I'm saying. I will converse civilly with you on this when you can do so. After this post, you get nothing from me unless you stop telling me what I'm saying. That's literally the word Danny used (that I replied to). Twice.

    Military Retirees & Healthcare

I kinda don't agree with this. I don't think people deserve things just because people are willing to promise it to them (but don't get me wrong -I do want them, and everyone else, to have healthcare). If some CEO of a giant corporation gets a billion dollars when he steps down (or is forced...

    D&D 5E Why does 5E SUCK?

This isn't my experience at all. But hey, I'm not one of those GMs that has runs tables for a hundred different players. Probably only about twenty people. I mentioned my Rule #2 being, "The character must be fun for everyone." However, Rule #1 is, "The character must work in a group." And...

    D&D 5E Why does 5E SUCK?

I have five rules that my players must abide by during character generation. Rule number 2 is, "The character must be fun for everyone." In the RPG I wrote, it's in the book, at character creation, before you ever even hit the mechanics. I think the point is that not everyone has the same...

    Military Retirees & Healthcare

While the military seems to do a lot of pretty shady things in my book when it comes to treating its people right (the long hours with no overtime, etc.), I'm hard-pressed to get up in arms over healthcare issues for them. They have a tremendously sweet deal compared to most people (what other...
