Tiefling and half-orc should not be in the PHB

Why? Just cos you said so?

    The Importance of Randomness

Im sorry, but they don't. Having a list of appropriate potential encounters (for the area/adventure/setting) is useful, and could make you consider things that might not have occured to you otherwise. Randomly determining which of these encounters occur however, has nothing to do with creativity.

    Stances

Good question. I'm not sure, but I was looking for some mechanic for non-caster to compete with the "I-win buttons" charm/suggestion/ESP etc.) casters will probably end up getting for social encounters.

    Stances

I like the idea of stances to make non-casters more interesting without stepping on the toes of magic. Maybe even look at the possibility of non-combat style stances (something like Posture of the Braggart Hero, Posture of the Modest Defender, Posture of the Pious Champion etc), which could be...

    The Importance of Randomness

IMO it doesn't make the world seem more dynamic, the GM shouldn't be letting the Players know if an encounter has a rationale behind it or not. At best, random encounters are a device to amuse the GM with no relevance to the player's eperience of the game, and at worst they are an abdication of...

Aasimar and Tiefling should be Themes or templates, not races

While I really like the 4e Tieflings, I'm also a fan of the 2e "orphans of the planes". I'd like a random planar origin race to be called Tieflings, while renaming but retaining the 4e demonic muties.

    The Importance of Randomness

With respect, I don't see how randomness is important to the above examples at all. The end-result can be achieved better by the GM placing the required encounter where it is deemed appropriate to the game session.

Tiefling and half-orc should not be in the PHB

Or steal the Warhammer Ogre, which has far more personality than the DnD version, for the "big race".

    Measurements for ranges and grids

I'd prefer more abstract. something like: Close / Melee / Short / Medium / Long / Extreme

    Spells: The Essentials

I would like some sort of demarcation of what each type of magic can encompass, rather than simply being able to do anything and everything. Alternatively, all casters should in my opinion be limited to a certain number of schools/domains/whatever.

    D&D 3E/3.5 5e Forgotten Realms - should it be closer to 3e or 4e?

Death to Eminster, The Harpers, and the cheaters of Mystra!

    Ethos for a New Edition

Couldn't hand out Experience, but I very much agree with this. I would like the game to be able to cater for more than one vision of what a Fighter is.

    Race "roles"

OMG, welcome to every bow-using Ranger being an Elf, every heavily armoured axe wielder a Dwarf.......

    D&D 5E Should 5E have Healing Surges?

Do you have an issue with certain Classes (Fighters, Barbarians etc) being able to insulate themselves with some mechanic similar to Temporary Hit Points, representing morale/rage/whatever?

    D&D 5E Should 5E have Healing Surges?

That you are entitled to your opinion goes without saying. I however vehemently disagree that a gritty wound system which has a high fantasy healing magic mechanic tacked-on, is in any way consistent.

    Proposed Damage / Healing System

I agree with the death-spiral thing being bad. I would prefer some bonuses for characters that kick in when their Hit Points drop to a certain level, to encourage a do-or-die heroism. I incidentally really liked the 4e idea of monsters triggering some sort of nasty attack or ability when they...

    D&D 5E Should 5E have Healing Surges?

With respect, it also represented a wound which vanished after a few glugs of Healing Potion. That also challenges realism. I find characters carrying bandoleers of Healing Potions, or a stack of Wands of Cure Light Wounds detracts from my verisimilitude. I would like the adventurers I DM to...

D&D 4E Turning 4e Cosmology into the Great Wheel

"That is not dead which can eternal lie" has always been a very positive outlook :p

    D&D 5E Should 5E have Healing Surges?

As any Athar will tell you, the Cleric was pretending that a deity was granting the power to heal, while secretly just doing what a Warlord does. What "major blood loss"? I'd understand a gritty wound system, if it didn't have fantastic magical healing as a deus ex machina. Either go gritty...

    Proposed Damage / Healing System

I am a big fan of most of 4e healing, but I think your proposal is a very good compromise. Sadly, I don't think there will be much room for innovation in the new edition, regression seems the prevailing mood. I expect a return to faux-gritty damage, where magical healing bringing you from...
