D&D (2024) First playtest thread! One D&D Character Origins.

FWIW, attendance at high school sporting events has declined significantly over the last 20+ years, primarily because they DO have many other options. They no longer need to go to the football game to socialize even though they don't care about football. Anyway, this is derailing the thread so...

D&D (2024) First playtest thread! One D&D Character Origins.

Oh, there are many things that young folk are better at because of this "ping-ponging". They are more adaptable, able to better adjust to transitions, can multi-task, are better at finding work-arounds, can quickly adjust to new tech, etc. It isn't a slam on young people at all in the big...

D&D (2024) First playtest thread! One D&D Character Origins.

Been teaching, coaching, parent for over 30 years, and I will stand by my statement. Go to a high school football game and see how many are on their phones (hint...basically all of them).

D&D (2024) First playtest thread! One D&D Character Origins.

If you believe that kids have more stamina today, I would suggest you haven't been around kids. We have bred a generation based on immediate gratification and short attention spans that result in them ping-ponging from one medium to another. One of the best things about DnD and the board game...

    D&D (2024) 'One D&D' Takes 5E to New & Digital Places

As someone who runs game groups for children, the biggest appeal to the game IMO is NOT having them using technology for something in their lives. I realize that they are just looking to expand their monetary footprint, as is there right as a business, but I think we are losing something...

    D&D (2024) 'One D&D' Takes 5E to New & Digital Places

Shouldn't all businesses be worried about losing a customer? If I owned a business, I sure would.

    D&D (2024) 'One D&D' Takes 5E to New & Digital Places

So glad they gave me 5e, which brought me back to the game after a 30 year absence. I will continue to play the game/books I have, but will not be following to the "new edition." And sorry, but in my game, goliaths will continue to have a strength advantage over halflings.

    D&D Movie/TV Here's The D&D Movie Trailer!

Don't know if it has been announced, but you have to assume that WOTC will be releasing a hardcover connected to the movie to cross market. So, any thoughts as to whether it will be more of a sourcebook like the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide or an actual adventure setting? Or, maybe both...

TSR TSR3 Throws In Towel, Rebrands Wonderfilled

Slightly off on a tangent here, but there is one thing I wanted to add to this whole mess that I haven't seen expressed (though I admittedly have not read every post in every thread). Knowing that TSR2 dropped the ball on their trademark renewal surprises nobody who purchased their version of...

D&D 5E Critical Role Miniatures Coming Soon

I used to watch the show from time to time, simply because Mercer was so darn good. Over time, I grew to not be able to stand one cast member and many of the fans became insufferable, so I checked out. However, my point is that despite my personal preference, I think the story behind their rise...

    D&D 5E Looking for class/subclass cheat sheet

I am looking for a cheatsheet which summarized all the classes/subclasses. I run a school group/summer school class and I would like to be able to hand them a sheet which gives a short, one sentence, summary of what a Gloom Stalker Ranger is or what a Circle of the Moon Druid is, etc. No game...

    D&D 5E New Errata & Advice For D&D Issued

Taking a -2 does not necessarily put them at 7. If you have them at 13 and take the -2 penalty, that 11 is still well above average for a kobold. Modifiers don't prevent extremes, they just pull them a little closer to what is typical.

    D&D 5E New Errata & Advice For D&D Issued

I am in that group that dislikes their tinkering with the racial modifiers. I get their thinking behind it and am supportive of issues of representation, but we are talking about creatures that are different species. When we talk about human beings, there is nothing inherently/significantly...

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

As I said, I agree with many of their points and all are worthy of discussion/inspection. Looking at your hiring practices or cultural representations in your content are the big rocks (IMO). Making an issue about giving a very slight bonuses to different species of creatures (while not limiting...

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

But what if they are? If I want someone to pull my cart, I would rather have a mule than a cat. We are assuming that people aren't bright enough to understand that "race" in D&D and "race" in real life are very different things. Blacks and whites are all HUMANS. Orcs and dwarves are totally...

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

I think the primary issue is that race sort of means something different in a fantasy game relative to life. When we think of race, we think of skin color, familial origin, etc. In D&D terms, we are all the same race (human) and would have the same racial modifiers. When you start getting into...

D&D General The perfect D&D edition (according to ENWORLD)

I agree. Most are fine, but for instance, as soon as we start getting too many feats, breaking combat down into flanking and positioning and all that stuff, you are getting at the heart of why some of us had not played for many years. Just my personal preference, but if I want a tactical...

D&D General The perfect D&D edition (according to ENWORLD)

I realize that these preferences may or may not be what the majority of people on this site desire, but I can tell you right now that there are things on this list that, if present, would have prevented me from getting back into the game. WOTC have done a perfect job IMO of understanding that...

D&D General D&D Summer School Course

If anyone is curious how this turned out (finished today)... I went with pre-gens as with only 10 days, I wanted to jump in playing ASAP. I spent virtually no time discussing rules, but a quick 5 minute overview of RPGs followed by an hour of having the kids work on their character history...
