D&D 5E Re-gripping your weapon uses an object interaction?

This week my DM told me half-way through my extra attack sequence that when nothing is in your hands except your two-handed weapon, removing one hand takes your free interaction even though it costs nothing to drop the weapon (removing both hands!), and that re-gripping it takes another object...

D&D 5E Does Your DM Let Everyone Start With A Feat?

Again, the issue is that when players are deciding which race to choose, since variant human (and presumably custom lineage) is unavailable and every race begins with a feat, then getting a feat is not part of your race choice. So why would anyone choose six +1s and ZERO racial features over a...

D&D 5E Does Your DM Let Everyone Start With A Feat?

Your campaign, your choice of course. If I were to play in such a campaign, I would not play human PCs. Why would I give up getting ANY racial features AT ALL, in return for -1 on my main stat and +1 on my 3rd, 4th, 5th and sixth stats? The top two stats are usually the ones I care about; why...

D&D 5E Tiny Servant: any cool ideas?

I'm making a clockwork soul sorcerer for a heist one-shot. Level 5, Extended Spell metamagic. I want to cast this and other 8 hour duration spells (Aid, Gift of Alacrity) using Extended Spell to make them last 16 hours, then long rest, so I wake up with full spell slots and sorcery points while...

    D&D 5E 5E Arena of Death

If your problem is with Moon druids, just ban that subclass; don't ban druids of other subclasses.

D&D 5E Change to Scourge Aasimar (no, not that one!)

Scourge Aasimar: in Volo's, and in Wildemount, the Radiant Consumption ability reads: "...you can use your action to unleash the divine energy within yourself, causing a searing light to radiate from you, pouring out of your eyes and mouth, and threatens to char you." "....at the end of each of...

D&D 5E Ghostly Gaze: how does it *really* work?

So you think the ability let's you perceive objects as transparent, ghostly images....but doesn't let you see through them to see what's on the other side? What would be the point of that?

D&D 5E Ghostly Gaze: how does it *really* work?

Oops! It's in Xanathar's, not Tasha's. I've edited the original post.

D&D 5E Ghostly Gaze: how does it *really* work?

Well, if the wall is transparent for you, then it by definition does not block the incoming light from reaching your eye, because that's how vision/transparency works. Right?

D&D 5E Ghostly Gaze: how does it *really* work?

In tonight's game the warlock used his Ghostly Gaze invocation (Xanathar's p56):- "As an action, you gain the ability to see through solid objects to a range of 30 feet. Within that range, you have darkvision if you don't already have it. This special sight lasts for 1 minute or until your...

D&D 5E Can a hasted bladesinger cast a cantrip with the haste extra action

The trouble is that if the rules were to be read that way, since the Attack Action itself only allows one attack (it does), then 'grapple, divine smite, BS substitution, and maybe even sneak attack' can never be used ever! But the general rule is beaten by the specific rules for grapple, divine...

D&D 5E Can a hasted bladesinger cast a cantrip with the haste extra action

PHB p192: Actions In Combat: Attack:- With this action, you can make ONE melee or ranged attack. See the "Making an Attack" section for the rules which govern attacks. Certain features, such as the Extra Attack feature of the fighter, allow you to make more than one attack with this action. PHB...

D&D 5E Can you share your experience with a featless/multiclassless game?

Yeah, in the same way that casters shouldn't get more powerful (higher level) spells as they gain experience, Ideally, they should gain more 1st level spells to 'grow your characters in breadth'.

D&D 5E Can you share your experience with a featless/multiclassless game?

FIFY. When you see people picking the same feats as a reason to ban feats, it follows that people picking the same spells is a reason to ban spells. Really, your solution to the 'problem' of 'same-y'ness'....is to force ALL fighters to increase Str/Dex/Con?

D&D General Dual-Wielding and The Ranger, Part 2: On the Unappreciated Genius of Zeb

Unfortunately, we couldn't infer how multi-classing works by looking at Elric's stat-block. : ) I'll be pleased if I get this spot-on after 40 years, but IIRC Elric was Fighter 13/Assassin 10/Magic-User 17. Is that right? Also, how did Stormbringer work? Was it a +5 two-handed sword that...

D&D General Dual-Wielding and The Ranger, Part 2: On the Unappreciated Genius of Zeb

Thanks. I think one reason I was pleased is that we could now work out what a Dex of 19 gave us in 1e that an 18 didn't. Is that memory accurate?

D&D General Dual-Wielding and The Ranger, Part 2: On the Unappreciated Genius of Zeb

In the same book, the Melnibonean Mythos detailed Elric's Companion, Moonglum. I remember feeling very pleased that he was dual-wielding scimitar and short sword, just like in the books. It's been 40+years, so I can't remember the details of the TWF for Moonglum, but I remember being happy...

D&D 5E Rogue's Cunning action: Double dash, etc.

This is a fundamental misunderstanding of the role of the game's mechanics (rules) in running the game. In D&D (and any other RPG I've ever seen) there are some things the rules do cover, and some things the rules don't cover. For the things the rules don't cover (like....breathing without...

D&D 5E Rogue's Cunning action: Double dash, etc.

Dash does NOT increase your speed! Dash lets you move your speed, in addition to moving your speed anyway.
