    D&D 5E Longswords

Here's an idea for a versatile feat Crippling Strike Your mastery of versatile weaponry lets you land maiming cuts and joint shattering blows. After making a 2-handed hit with a versatile weapon, you may use a bonus action to deal d4 damage of the weapon's type and reduce the targets AC by 1...

Having an NPC roll persuasion on YOU?

For this purpose my character was lawful neutral with folk hero background and was possessed by an alien entity for the Great Old One warlock patron. Shown the true nature of chaos and even though he fights his patron's influence, he still realizes it has a place in the universe and must be...

Having an NPC roll persuasion on YOU?

So true neutral is Lawful Good lite? Sounds boring

Having an NPC roll persuasion on YOU?

That's the joke though. A true neutral character wouldn't have a strong conviction towards one side or another, and would allow himself to be persuaded in the same manner that PCs persuade NPCs.

Having an NPC roll persuasion on YOU?

It could give the player an avenue to infer NPC statistics. Most likely wouldn't be game-breaking, but it could set a precedent that might be abused.

Having an NPC roll persuasion on YOU?

I see your point, this lies on the side of metagaming and attempting to access behind the screen information. Thanks for the response

Having an NPC roll persuasion on YOU?

That's one interpretation, though I'm not sure where you're getting that from. I was referencing this page: http://easydamus.com/trueneutral.html I mean, that's one way to do it. A 50% split seems boring when you can have something more dynamic in a game based on dice and numerical statistics.

Having an NPC roll persuasion on YOU?

True Neutral can be characterized as having an attitude of apathy or indifference. Has anyone met a plea for help from an NPC with a request for them to make a persuasion check? I think this would be mildly amusing, but I'm not sure how some DMs might feel

    Illusions and Passive Investigation

Well said and informative post. It seems I have misunderstood the purpose of passive stats. Just curious, what would be the DC of the Deception check in this scenario?

    Illusions and Passive Investigation

That's a very good point, it did cross my mind when brain storming scenarios. That doesn't cover the illusions created by PCs though and much of the debate is on how powerful those can be when executed cleverly. Simply put, an illusion crafted so that the NPC has no logical reason to...

    Illusions and Passive Investigation

No qualms with that. You can't be engaged with another activity and be attentive and alert with your surroundings. This is where I disagree slightly. Just like someone using passive perception shouldn't have to specify that they are looking for traps or stealthed creatures, someone using...

    Illusions and Passive Investigation

I see that different DMs interpret and use passive scores differently from this thread (or not use them at all). However it seems to me that 9 times out of 10 when players run into hostile NPCs they are going to have that "always on" radar: whether it be patrolling, guarding, or moving in to...

    Illusions and Passive Investigation

Which makes sense, because he/she has studied magic and knows what to look for as tell tale signs of illusions: how they interact with light and such. Unless the enemy illusionist is significantly more proficient This also creates a tool for DMs to deal with players who abuse illusions - make...

    Illusions and Passive Investigation

I've seen much debate on how different DMs treatment of illusions can cause their power levels to vary wildly from game to game. It just occurred to me that there is already a precedent for automatically determining whether a creature sees through an illusion, in addition to the "use an action...

D&D 5E [GUIDE] A party without music is lame: A Bard Guide

If you have a basic Bard sequence that can compete with a fighter, let me know lol.

D&D 5E [GUIDE] A party without music is lame: A Bard Guide

I understand that the Bard EB will never compete with Warlock EB. That's not my intention. My intention is to do what Bards do best and fill roles that are lacking in my party. EB fills the consistent magical damage niche nicely. It also allows me to take out multiple low health creatures who...

    D&D 5E The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

Question: Do you think it would be too overpowered to allow a monk character to use an Athletics (Dex) check to initiate grapples instead of Athletics (Str)? Maybe just for the first arm grapple but not the second? Our monk used Str as a dump stat It does seem realistic but I'm not sure...

D&D 5E [GUIDE] A party without music is lame: A Bard Guide

Yes I'm sure! I've already reached level 4 and picked college of Lore [emoji13] Rapier and crossbow are just secondary damage, in case they are immune to magic, I get silenced, or someone is in my face (need a finesse weapon for defensive duelist). Plus I can get lucky and come across a magic...

D&D 5E [GUIDE] A party without music is lame: A Bard Guide

Hey guys, first time poster/table top player here, looking for a little Lore Bard advice (I'm loving the class so far). Our party consists of a Devotion Pally, Life Cleric, Open Palm Monk, and little ol' me, the Lore Bard. I've decided to go for more spell damage and combat control oriented...
