    What's Your Favorite House Rule?

My favorite home rule is increasing the duration of all summoning spells to min/LV.

What Is an Experience Point Worth?

Experience is a measure of getting better at the abilities that you use all the time. In real life , people get better at their jobs and level up (i.e. Get pay raises) as they do. Although jobs are nearly always annual times to level up, characters will improve once they've used their skills...

Fun And The Flow In Games

Power is out from Hurricane. Our family played Yahtzee including my daughter who has never played it before. We had fun.

    This Old Dragon

I started playing AD&D in 1979 as well. We liked all but 2nd edition. After playing 3.5 for a while, we got nostalgic and attempted to play 1st edition again. It was a bust and we quickly went back to 3.5 and pathfinder. I have a stack of Dragon magazines. I was thinking it was about time to...

Strange men sleazing about in taverns distributing quests is no basis for a system of adventuring.

Our gaming group almost never starts in a tavern. Some of our starts were: 1) We were all part of a military group 2) We all attend a fair and then the town is attacked by monsters. All of us adventurers run towards the fray whilst all the towns people run screaming in the opposite direction...

    Do you roll for treasure?

I mostly create the treasure to fit the monster that was guarding it. A monster that doesn't have backpacks or pockets would not have a pile of coins on its' corpse. I also use specific treasure to advance a new adventure.

How long have you been gaming?

I first played at age 15. We played AD&D version 1. I created a first level magic-user whose one memorized spell was Charm Person. I didn't know what the heck was going on and just tagged along as the group explored a dungeon. I did nothing except hold a torch, so I was a bit depressed at not...

[Updated] Who's Playing What On Fantasy Grounds? Final Stats For 2016!

My group stuck with 3.5 and pathfinder. We really like those versions and saw no reason to switch to version 4.

Help. I've lost confidence as a GM.

Dude...you're Mom just died. You need to grieve. Also people working on anything need vacation time. Give yourself a few weeks vacation from the DM role.

    Braille for wizards

Another consideration is the purpose of Braille. Braille in our world is used to enable the blind to read. It is tough for a blind mage to exist, as almost every spell requires targeting. I suppose you could make a Daredevil type magician who relies on blindsight to target. And their spellbook...

    Changing Racial bonuses

Be sure to note that the second +2 must be applied to a different stat than the primary +2. Otherwise, everyone will go for +4 on one stat. I suppose from the POV of being able to play any character from any race, your idea would make sense. PCs are supposed to be exceptional from the norms of...

UK Games Expo Now World's 3rd Largest Tabletop Gaming Convention

So these are all open games? You can join any table that you want? I suppose the characters are pre-generated. I'm not seeing the fuss. Even if it turns out to be the best game you ever played, there's no continuity. The convention will be over in a few days and that great DM will be gone.

Pathfinder 1E Returning to D&D 3.75 er I mean Pathfinder

I am fortunate that I'm able to avoid the problem of players meta-gaming. I'm currently running an aquatic PF campaign using Cerulean Seas. That book can only be seen by buying it. And I'm slowly revealing the monsters one at a time. So with no name, they have no way of looking them up on the...

    Dnd 3.5 sewer enemy help

The Cerulean Seas has an humanoid turtle named Halbokian Kappa. Though it is an aquatic monster, you can convert it to land based. It is a medium monstrous humanoid, amphibious and anthromorph. It is CR 3, AC 16 (+6 armor), has two slams +6 that do d4+3. And they have a special ability called...

The Toughest Part of Dungeon Mastering........well to me at least.

For table top games, where the players all know each other and can see each other, I have to contrive some event for them all to come together. If I simply free style it and let everyone get together as they please, then everyone goes off in different directions and I have to run two or more...

what was your favorite long-running dragon magazine comic?

Although I think KODT is the funniest one of the bunch, I stopped reading Dragon magazine before they appeared there. I answered the poll based on which comics were in Dragon magazine when I read it. Using that criteria, snarf quest wins it.

    Why does fantasy dominate RPGs?

I didn't mean that a person needs to know how to do that skill in order for their character to do it. I meant that with a sword fighting, I know exactly what end result I can get. I know that a sword is swung and I'm trying to damage what I'm swinging at. With SF, I don't know what any high tech...

    Why does fantasy dominate RPGs?

I think fantasy is easier to play than sci-fi merely because understanding magic & swords is easier than understanding futuristic technology. I played a sci-fi RPG a long time ago. My character was a xeno-biologist with some other high tech skills. I found it difficult to formulate concepts on...

Rules question: Protection from evil, how does "suppressing effect" work exactly?

It seems obvious to me that #1 is the correct interpretation. The Dominate person spell is a long-term continuous compulsion spell. The dominated person is an automaton of the caster with no free will to do anything other than basic survival. As part of this domination, the caster can issue new...
