D&D 5E When to Award XP?

I used to use XP in older editions, now I'm finding it easier to just level up my party all together without the worry of numbers. I don't use XP at all as of late. Life gets in the way sometimes and I don't want to penalise my players for not showing up because they're at a wedding or better...

D&D 5E [poll] Sorcerer Satisfaction Survey

From what my players say: Tons of fun Though some don't think the Sorcerer can compete with the Wizard in 5e, I'd have to disagree. I have a Lightning Draconic Sorcerer in the game I'm DMing and her character is extremely powerful. She has AC15 (without spells), she's extremely good at...

D&D 5E Dungeon Length: How long does it take?

How do you determine your dungeon's length? What tool(s) do you use to predict how many hours (or sessions) your dungeon takes to complete? To elaborate: I'm fairly new to DMing 5th Edition. Anyways that being said, how do you determine your dungeon length? I don't just mean physical size but...

    D&D 5E Handling Skill Challenges

An exciting part of the game out of combat is roleplaying. However, backing up your roleplaying with actual die rolls can give you wavering results! So herein lies the Skill Challenge where the DM will call you out to roll skills... Or does he call 2 of you out? 3? The entire party? Some skill...

D&D 5E No love for the hand axe?

I totally agree. I don't use my master sword to do that crap After reading your post, it gives me a inspiration to perhaps run a 1shot game and the setting/plot for the game would be more of a survival scenario. For a game like this, you could even ban weapons that aren't considered tools and...

D&D 5E [poll] Barbarian Satisfaction Survey

We have a Barbarian in the party I'm DMing and the player sure has lots of fun getting into character. He does play the Berserker, and part of his character is that Exhaustion doesn't intimidate him. He'll force everyone to move forward and force march, even if he's exhausted! He also throws a...

D&D 5E [poll] Druid Satisfaction Survey

The Druid is obviously it's own class... But still has too much book keeping I remember in Pathfinder, there was tons to do with the Druid. Monster stat blocks, knowledge of their power, spells to keep track of and bonus spells etc. In 5th edition, they really cut the spells down - which is...

    Gambling Games

I came up with a cool one I call "Dicette" It's basically roulette with dice. 1) Get 1d20, 2d6, a flip mat and a small pawn or marker. 2) Draw a 5X4 grid and put numbers 1-20 in each different square. Alternate the colours of the squares between Black & Red. Make sure the squares are big...

    D&D 5E Bastard Sword Idea

Keep the Bastard Sword but change the negative circumstances to this: "If thou wieldst a bastard sword like an idiot (aka: 1 handed) you take disadvantage on all attack rolls and Persuasion (Charisma) checks because you are obviously not wielding a sword properly... plus thou looks like a...

D&D 5E Homebrew: New Monster with new race. Is this Challenge 10?

So I created a monster... and the player's have not faced it yet. It is of an elite soldier of a new race I made called the Votruk. Basically the concept is: They are highly irradiated juggernauts meant for battle and interrogation alongside many foot soldiers. They use a scythe infused with...

    Horrid DM's

Lol you never know! If your game's good, I might actually stay.. maybe.. . :P Ironically enough I actually do that nowadays - each and every tile being 5ft - but with a Hexagonal Grid for Wilderness areas. We still use a Square Grid for dungeons, but do the good ol' 2Diagonals =15feet.

#RPGaDAY Day 04: Which RPG have you played the most since August 2016?

I've played a lot of Pathfinder last year and now we're playing lots of 5e. I'm DMing a Sci-Fi themed game. Loving 5e!

    Horrid DM's

The food was rancid man. The questionably 'fresh' cheese balls that kinda made you feel like eating your character pawn may be a better option! I didn't say anything at the time - it was a few years ago - so I brushed it aside. There was almost nothing to anybody's character from what I knew...

    Horrid DM's

I'm starting this thread because I feel like I could relate with people with blasphemous DM stories. Unfortunately these "Stories" must be true. I've gone through a number of them, and so have you! I encourage you to share a story about a terrible DM you've had running the table.

D&D 5E The classes that nobody wants to play

Haven't been playing a lot of 5e but in the games I've played/am hosting I've had: 2 Wizards, 2 Druids, 1 Fighter, 2 Barbarians, 1 Sorcerer, 1 Rogue, 1 Ranger. In other games, (like pathfinder) I've experienced only 1 monk and many clerics.

D&D 5E What does immunity look like?

I think if it blew off him that's decent. If the players don't get it right away, I'd even say: "He didn't even flinch" or "Your swing was mighty yet it did not leave a single scratch".

D&D 5E The Transition: Old to New DM

I have a reliable player who has always wanted to DM. They've been a player for a couple of years now but they have little to no idea of how to be a Dungeon Master. They've admitted this to me as I've asked them before: "Did you ever want to DM sometime?". At first, I was a little shocked how...

D&D 5E To own 5E books or not to own 5E books that is the Question

Buy the books online I did buy the PhB at a game store, and it ran me almost $60.00. If you buy it off Amazon, you can get all books for like $100 or less. I'm in for supporting gamestores but sometimes online is the better option especially if you're looking for a better deal.
