It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

I am astounded and completely applaud their final decision. However, that doesn't just wipe away what they tried to do, they attempted to create a walled garden within the D&D Beyond ecosystem for OneDND while simultaneously turning everything outside of those walls into a nuclear wasteland...

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

I can honestly say that I am utterly surprised by this news. I tend to agree with several other posters in that this probably means 6E or whatever will be completely different in terms of licensing and compatibility. WotC has let the metaphorical cat out of the bag now, I think they've lost the...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2e Newbie with questions.

Welcome aboard! I'm sure other will chime in on this, but I'll give it a go. I would say that whether an 80 xp monster is the same threat as four 20 xp monsters is going to be dependent on circumstances like terrain, group composition, etc. The biggest thing to take into consideration is...

WotC To Give Core D&D Mechanics To Community Via Creative Commons

This doesn't actually seem that bad, but I fear it is too little too late for a lot of 3PP. I think WotC let the cat out of the bag. If they had started with this after the initial leak then things may have been different. I think there are too many ways for them to strip OGL 1.2 from you as well.

WotC Talks OGL... Again! Draft Coming Jan 20th With Feedback Survey; v1 De-Auth Still On

You are definitely right. I never played the Creative Assembly games, but I heard thy are excellent. I have really strange feelings about Age of Sigmar, as I wish they hadn't destroyed the setting in order to change the game, and it doesn't help that I feel like I contributed to its creation...

WotC Talks OGL... Again! Draft Coming Jan 20th With Feedback Survey; v1 De-Auth Still On

This is, essentially, a reframing of what they already said last week. I've gone through a lot of back and forth, even on these boards, but I think I just don't care anymore. They are at least allowing currently published OGL content to stand. Most publishers will surely move on to ORC, while a...

Traveller Open Content - New Programme on the Way

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the folks at Mongoose Publishing are top class because not only do they believe in ethical causes like open gaming, but they back it up with actions. Well done, Matt and team!

WOIN Open-Licensed WOIN Starter Set Coming in 2023

Excellent news! I'll back this if it goes to Kickstarter.

D&D 5E Will you continue to give WotC D&D your $$$

I laid out my stance in another thread but I am basically at the point where I need to see what WotC actually does rather than what they tried to do. I can't blame them for wanting to create a closed ecosystem centered around D&D Beyond, but I also don't think it wise if they don't allow already...

    Taking a Step Back

You still don't think this is possible? I think there are enough minor and mid-level creators that would sign up to play directly in D&D's D&D Beyond playground rather than being on OneBookShelf's Dungeon Masters Guild. True, the big publishers like Kobold Press, Paizo, and EN Publishing will...

    Taking a Step Back

I do not believe that what Wizards of the Coast is trying to do is right, much less ethical, and I also believe that they have irrevocably (see what I did there) damaged not only 3PPs, but also the goodwill they have built with the Dungeons & Dragons community. I am surprised, I am upset, and I...

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

Emphasis mine. Exactly! That's why Paizo has said that they will be stripping the OGL from future publications until ORC is finalized. Paizo:

    RPG Evolution: Fixing the Mess

They have shown their willingness by distributing this license with an NDA attached. I would agree with you on the "bad thoughts" comment if they hadn't already acted on this by distributing it externally. Sure, they might let it go for now, but this shows what they really want to do and I'm...

    RPG Evolution: Fixing the Mess

I can't speak for anyone else, but even if WotC doesn't go forward with this version of the license, they have shown what they were willing and capable of doing; that alone alone has lead me away from D&D 5E entirely, and I will not be buying any more D&D products produced by WotC. I'm only one...
