Ravnica: Is This The New D&D Setting? [UPDATED & CONFIRMED!]

Since it's a second city-type book, I imagine the mechanics laid out for the Waterdeep stuff will also work well with this new setting.

"Dust" and "Midway" - Codenames for Upcoming D&D Hardcovers

If we're getting an adventure in a different world, it'd be likely that the game expansion/options book (i.e. all those subclasses, artificer, and mystic) might be before the adventure. None of the recent UA stuff screams Dark Sun to me except for the mystic. Mystic, Artificer, and some of the...

Unearthed Arcana 5E Psionics Alert! The Mystic Is Back In Unearthed Arcana

Yeah. I kinda hope that mystics and monks will both just get ki points, or that multiclass monks' and mystics' ki can somehow interact. Not sure if bunches of extra ki points would break monks tho.

Unearthed Arcana 5E Psionics Alert! The Mystic Is Back In Unearthed Arcana

And even more, if you look at the spellpoints in the DMG you'll see that this matches exactly with that spellpoint system up to caster level 10, then it switches up with their Psionic Mastery.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Sorcerers: Favored Souls, Phoenix Sorcery, Sea Sorcery, & Stone Sorcery

I miss the bonus spells a bit, but agree that the old favored soul and original storm sorcerer got a few too many. I wish they would have picked a solid utility spell (or pair?) for each of these elemental-themed sorcerers. Storm sorcerer wouldn't be overpowered with free access to featherfall...

D&D 5E Too much arcane in the party?

I get the argument that whatever character a player wants to play is good for the party, but its a good opportunity to have the player's talk first about their character ideas and concepts, because sometimes after talking it out you get a good sense of how the characters might have bonds with...

D&D 5E what is it about 2nd ed that we miss?

So, the character you describe is relatively similar to the Crusader option, but on steroids. It looks possibly broken on the surface because of the warrior thac0, but not actually bonus attacks. As someone who played some of the Spells and Magic classes, you really do feel the pinch of a small...

D&D 5E what is it about 2nd ed that we miss?

Another easy house rule is to simply add both XP tables together, then you always advance in each class equally. You loose a bit of nuance but its easier to track which proficiency or thac0 rate to apply and the like.

D&D 5E what is it about 2nd ed that we miss?

As someone who just started playing 2nd edition again back in September, its also the modularity. It is really easy to make a few changes to 2nd edition (and earlier editions) which are difficult in later editions. The Spells & Magic book literally lets you change how all magic works in the...

DM's Guild: What Do The Customers Think?

But, there's no real incentive to share knowledge of system mastery. In fact, if anyone figures out how to game that system they're financially incentivized to avoid sharing their discoveries...

Read it before you run it?

Usually just a good skim, depending on the length. If its long, I'll make probably do a super quick skim and focus on the parts the players are most likely to encounter first and the parts I'm liable to want to modify. I usually feel, afterwards, that I should have taken notes after the skim...

    D&D 5E Polytheistic Clerics

Fluff solution: Assign each spell to one deity. Then a player can call out the correct god's name at the table when they cast it. Domain is simply more fluff, like a particular order of priest or lineage of the character's training.

DM's Guild: What Do The Customers Think?

A different interface would help. The "most popular" section barely changes, and things vanish from the "newest" section too quickly. It takes multiple clicks to find some specific product types you're looking for. It would be nice to have a separate section for "best rated", "most popular...

D&D 5E What are the 3 best cantrips a Tomelock can choose?

Shillelagh combined with Booming Blade or Greenflame Blade makes you competitive with some of the melee classes, but if you're not willing to get into melee you're better off with other options (non-combat options even). Guidance, Mage Hand, Message and Minor Illusion see quite a bit of use...

D&D 5E Different ways to handle death (and resurrection)

If part of the goal is to make dying actually mean something, you could have each die of cold damage inflice one additional point of damage the first time you're brought back, then a second the next time, etc. Less harsh than vulnerability. But you could also just say those spells don't exist...

    D&D 5E Shillelagh question

There's also the subtle benefit that you are now armed with a weapon, meaning you can make opportunity attacks, benefit from the extra attack feature, and the like.
