D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 Hates Religion (Spoilers)

Has someone mentioned that Withers, AKA Jergal, is actively backing the party with cut-price resurrections + fallen hero hirelings? That's some pretty blatant and powerful divine support. In game you can employ the hirelings in all manner of ways. Camp casters are especially strong, I have my...

D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 will now be releasing August 3rd on PC and September 6th on PS5, increased level cap, race & class details and more

You can play a saviour if you want. You get hailed a hero if you save a bunch of innocents. Three time I counted, in EA. Starting morally grey companions can grow to like you and some even begin to agree with your heroic choices.

D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 will now be releasing August 3rd on PC and September 6th on PS5, increased level cap, race & class details and more

I've played a lot of EA and BG3 is more like TT D&D than CRPGs BG1 or 2. Just the whole party and camp dynamic by itself contrasts with daily adventuring. Yeah, sure. There's lots of exotic locations; Underdark, Avernus, (strongly hinted at) Astral Plane, (foreshadowed) Chult. But these in...

D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 will now be releasing August 3rd on PC and September 6th on PS5, increased level cap, race & class details and more

I don't see how BG3 can be epic level tier, or even much into high tier, is because of the map. One of the big changes ime with getting high level is the freedom of travel. Just simply acquiring a ship or hippogriff mounts (possibly mid-tier) is that they open up destination options within a...

    D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie Hit or Flop?

I was a bit shocked when my friend's 10 year old son got scared midway through the movie and they had to leave. But the Thay scenes, Underdark and Sofina herself are a bit scary. Turns out 3 years makes a big difference in viewability.

RPG Evolution - D&D Tactics: Hikes

Yes! 5E kind of alludes to the solution with difficult terrain costing +1' of speed and climbing costing +1' of speed in tactical movement. So if the base travel speed is 24 miles a day, in rough mountains requiring periods of climbing, that drops to 8 miles.

D&D 5E Is Tasha's More or Less The Universal Standard?

Nah, no Tasha's for me. It's too far removed from the 2014 PHB. I think it's more for a younger generation of player? The three local groups I'm in or aware of don't use it, and anyway for my introduction group we only use the simplest ruleset.

D&D 5E Do We Really Need a Lot of Gold? (D&D 5th Edition)

My 10th level character still has 5k to repay on his stronghold loan and wrangled a 6k deal to hire 100 mercenaries for a month of campaigning. His recent share of treasure totals about 4.5k. There's a temporarily resident transmuter-smith that could make magical plate armour, I'm guessing...

    D&D 5E Altering Drow Culture.

Until someone writes something as good as those early Salvatore novels, Drow ain't gonna change. It's got to fire the imagination and spread like wildfire, some niche sourcebook won't change much. For me, Drow are black, evil and super-cool. And old-skool Drizzt is the iconic outcast rebel...

D&D 5E Do you think we'll see revised core books in 2024? (And why I think we will)

There would be a heck of a lot of play testing and development to change the PHBs. It's the core product, man, stuff something like this up and they'll have another 4E on their hands and can kiss their jobs & reputations goodbye. I see a lot of stick getting thrown at races and alignment in...

D&D 5E How the game changes when a DM starts to target downed PC's?

I had foes kill downed PCs twice last mini-campaign. First one was an action-surging half-dragon that cut down and finished off fighter1 in a duel set-up. Infatuated acolyte raised her but killed self using scroll way beyond ability. Second one was in the final battle where fighter2's held...

D&D General Do players even like the risk of death?

We had a PC death and a beat-down last session, it certainly got people's attention. There had been some rash play leading up to it, so it was very educational for the newer players. The experienced players noticed I had held back, but had maneuvered their PCs to escape regardless. I have gone...

    D&D General It's not a video game.

I recently had a player cheat himself out of the encounter he badly wanted because he had read the adventure. Read it fairly, mind you, he DM'd it earlier. Situation: Tyranny of Dragons, early 1 on 1 duel, another PC accepts first and gets themselves killed against a BBEG. Player gets upset...

    D&D 5E "Punishing" Player Behavior

That's a good question! Well, they all had selected bonds to be against the Cult of the Dragon and had pretty much suffered failure when on their own. Each alignment by itself wasn't a problem, even the evil PC matched the bond of revenge. I left it then to the players to build relationships...

    D&D 5E "Punishing" Player Behavior

If I enforce Good-only, and therefore certain players don't play, or these players get bored and leave. I am 100% fine with that. I do not want/need/desire deleterious players. What I can't stand are players who bring all manner of crank into the game and destroy it - ruining my effort and...

    D&D 5E "Punishing" Player Behavior

'Hero' for our game was defined by 'you want to stop the Cult of the Dragon from destroying the world'. I got a: NE enabler, CN murder-hobo, LG prisoner slayer, LN blood bather, and one lonely CG people's champion. Frankly, I would love it if for just one campaign there could be a solid core...

    D&D 5E "Punishing" Player Behavior

Our current game is about to crash and burn due to player shenanigans. You know the behavior; spotlight hogging, 'why would my character be part of this party?', inattentive play, 'I wanna play eevil', session 7 'which die do I roll for my greataxe?', arguments over whether to travel north-west...

    D&D 5E A different take on Alignment

How exactly do I use alignment?? Well, it's an entry in my PC spreadsheet, so I saw at a glance the current party is pretty fractious (CG, LG, NE, LN, CN) and not overly heroic. The players choose their alignment as a statement of intent, and I'm using it as guide to party cohesion. By now...

    D&D 5E RIP alignment

I wouldn't know, I don't play those other games. What shorthands do they have for me to build npc motivations? For example, the veteran I decided was NE, a mercenary for hire, with average Int but plenty of HPs suggesting a knack for survival. So, I decided his loyalty threshold was low enough...

    D&D 5E RIP alignment

In my last session, the party took 4 prisoners: a N kobold, NE veteran, LE acolyte, & LE teenage cultist. From this shorthand I figured out that the kobold latched onto the kindest PC fighter, the veteran sold out the acolyte, the acolyte died praising Tiamat, and the teen cultist could have...
