d20 Star Wars Saga Edition news from Gen Con?

Okay, for the benefit of those of us who weren't able to make it to Gen Con this year (very regrettably), what kind of news has been released about the Saga Edition SWRPG that's coming out?

Rules changes, compatibility issues, what's added or removed? What do we know now?

I know there is a video of the seminar posted up on GamingReport.ocm, but I'm not going to download 75 MB through my dial-up.

Would someone with broadband kindly view the video, take notes, and provide the transcript?

There were tidbits posted up on Wizards' messageboard (go to Star Wars RPG HQ forum).

1. Still d20.

2. More Mini friendly

3. Classes
-Some classes removed
-Some classes get new features

4. Skills
-Reduced # of skills with some skills being combined

5. Force Powers will be undergoing a change to avoid some force powers working like skills and others like feats.

6. New force powers

7. changes to combat. The sound on the video was not great. I think I heard something about a damage track, because dealing with conditions is too confusing for many people.

Fringer, Tech Specialist, Force Adept REMOVED, their abilities are given to the other classes (the classes weren't played enough according to the seminar)

Move silently + hide now become stealth, etc

5. Force Powers will be undergoing a change to avoid some force powers working like skills and others like feats.
All force skils and feats are combined into the Use Force Skill

6. New force powers

The system will also be discarding VP/WP in favor of HP

Reduced Skills+ combining force skills and force into one Force skill+ switch to Hit points = I'll pass!

If what they are saying on the WotC message boards is correct, I won't be buying Saga edition, and will probably keep to my RCR. They may well be creating the optimum version of a d20 Star Wars I wouldn't enjoy.

No WP/VP, back to D&D style HP. (Is this a dumbing-down because only HP are used in the minis game?)

Tech Specialist, Force Adept and Fringer classes removed, ostensibly because they weren't being played enough (as if that's a valid reason, they legitimately have roles in the setting). Yeah, because there aren't any technicians in the galaxy (and they are removing the class that was put in at fan request), and apparenlty there aren't any non-Jedi force users in the galaxy either , and both Luke and Anakin Skywalker were Jedi at 1st level and never had any adventures before being taught as Jedi. *rolls eyes*

Only being one force skills "Use Force", instead of a variety of skills and feats (There is such a thing as oversimplification, and only one force skill is definitely oversimplification. I could accept the variant that WotC posted of just Control, Sense, and Alter, but just "Use Force" is ridiculous).

While they say they aren't making it just a "Minis+" game, they are adding elements of the minis game to the RPG. (Uh oh)

Just like there are people who keep playing d6 Star Wars, I imagine this edition will produce a lot of people who still play RCR. I might loot new Saga Edition books for things to reverse-engineer to RCR, but unless the early reports are strongly mistaken I won't prefer Saga to RCR. I hope they are and there have been some serious communication errors here.

Heck, maybe if it's still in editing since it's due out in about 7 months, this is something of a public airing of some ideas to see if the fans like or dislike them. I hope so, so it can be known that a lot of these are labelled "dislike".

I'm just happy and glad that they are working on a new edition....period! I'm sure most of us thought the game was dead, so I'm excited that there's a new edition coming out.

I'm getting it.

I doubt it. According to Andy, by the time a book is announced to us, it has already been completed.

Based upon what we are hearing, I would rather WOTC lost the license and someone else - Green Ronin, Eden or GOO (if GOOwas still in business) -picked up the license.
