How would you "do" an 2 weapon fighting paladin? is it possible, or..

I was thinking taking ranger and then multiclass to paladin, burning armour feats.
But can you do it the other way around?

Sure, the two-weapon fighting feat isn't class specific. Then you just take some multiclass feats to get some powers that attack with two weapons. You'll just have to wield and offhand weapon whereas the ranger would get to wield two normal weapons.

You could even just make a Half-Elf and get Twin Strike as your third at-will. Then you have something to attack with 2 weapons and you can still take all your normal paladin powers. Multi-class as needed for other powers.

Half-elves don't get a third at-will, they get an at-will attack power from another class as an encounter power.

Yumepenguin's suggestions are pretty much the way I'd do it. I'll add that you actually can wield two normal weapons, if you take the Two-Bladed Warrior multiclass feat from Martial Power.

A nice trick is to use a throwing hammer or hand axe as your offhand weapon, both are heave thrown weapons, so you will always have a ranged weapon at hand. Get a magical version as soon as possible and they become returning too.

Step 1) make your Paladin focus on Strength and Wisdom over Charisma (possibly Con and Dex over Cha, even).
2) Take the Two Weapon Fighting Feat and the Two Weapon Defense feat
3) Take the Ranger MC feat, and any other MC feats that give you useful powers. Notably, you can avoid the level 9 Paladin powers, which would require investing in Charisma to be of any use. Melee Rangers run on Strength and Wisdom, which you have in good measure.

Alternate number 3) Take the fighter MC feat, and then take appropriate MC feats to take Tempest powers from Martial Power. Fighters need a good Strength and can benefit from your good Wisdom as well.

optional 4) take a Double Weapon from Adventurer's Vault.

The aforementioned "play a Tempest fighter who works for the church" is actually a viable alternative. Don't assume that your holy warrior needs to be a paladin: a Fighter with a decent Wis score, and an MC feat into Paladin or Cleric could fulfill the "holy warrior" character concept just fine.

There are plenty of options that's "just say you work for the church."

I actually like Ranger MC cleric, 'cos unless you really want DC, cleric powers tend to be scarier.
Such as divine power, for instance ... that one is just ... eww.
