D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Unusual campaign and situation. need character suggestions

Ahira Battleaxe

First Post
I'm starting up a gestalt campaign soon based on a dragon's quest for knowledge. He summons the party to help him learn about something, but has to send along a trusted member of his staff to keep a record and be a scribe that they wouldn't have to worry about TOO much. I want to have this be a character that isn't really involved in combat or role-playing too much. I'd like something that has some you-can't-kill-me type abilities, but little in the way of combat prowess. my initial thought was a pixie with monk levels and maybe bard levels.
I have a bit of time before I have to have the character ready, but was hoping you guys could think of something interesting, silly, or B.A. that I could put together. They're starting at level 10, and LA only counts on one side of the Gestalt.
Thanks!

A Wizard with the Initiative of the Sevenfold Veil prestige class. Specialize in Divination, and have a good number of self-buffs and battle-field control.

I second the seven veils

Also there is a class from complete scoundrel that gives you all these luck bonuses and feats, with a +1 level of previous level of spell casting

For something completely different and rediciouls play a gestalt kender bard/handeler watch everyone cringe as you "pick up things people have dropped". They have a fun taunt ability too. They are a great silly race!

While a Wizard specializing in defensiveness does sound like it'd fit what your looking for, I'd also like to suggest Warlock with many non-attacking related Invocations.

Beguiling Influence, Dark One's Own Luck, Entropic Warding, Leaps and Bounds, See The Unseen, Spiderwalk, Devil's Sight... this is a short list from just the Least invocations in Complete Arcane that are useful, but directly for combat necessarily. Fly, turn invisible, all that other good stuff, just don't Eldritch Blast very often, or find some substitute for that class ability.

More Thematically appropriate, a Dragonfire Adept with the same focus. I'm particularly a fan of Magic Insight, Identify at will! Draconic Knowledge, Aquatic Adaptation, Endure Exposure, as well as some Warlock invocation overlap, can develop a similar build.

Focused Specialist Diviner, possibly gestalted with Sorcerer (taking abjuration spells only...maybe some buffs) and the Draconic Heritage & Draconic Breath feats OR Arcane Strike and Still Spell. The former marks him as a distant cousin of the dragon, and all of his offensive capability comes from his breath weapon- a nifty tie-in to the underlying plotline. Take the latter route, and he can wear armor while casting some of his spells, and he channels spell energy to do additional weapon damage. Either way, he has loads of spells to channel that way, but has to be careful with them, lest he lose the use of his divinatory & protective spells.

Given the level, take 'em all.

You might also look into the Reserve feats. Something like Invisible Blade would give him a nigh inexhaustible source of force daggers, for instance.

You could also go that route if you take Wild Talent and add the appropriate energy-themed Kineticist to the mix.

Invisible stalker (Granted one would be CR of 7) That also has 1 rank in monk/ninja to get the wis bonus, just alter the stats to give it 18 wis

Then it gets +4 ac giving it an AC of 21
If its gestalt make it monk mixed with wizard for mage armour and shield spells, once those are cast, it would have AC 29, and even those that can see it have a miss chance

For the first four levels it may seem a bit tough, but beyond that you have a fairly strong creature used to hiding, if you also cast the decrease size spell it would get +1 dex to its AC and +1 size bonus, giving a huge AC.

On the Race side, consider something with a ridiculously high Dex adjustment, like the Githzerai, or one of the Anthro races from Savage Species (some of which may also have NAC).*

For giggles, add the Winged template, which not only gives flight-capable wings, it further boosts Dex.

* if the character has Draconic Heritage as mentioned upthread, this could make the PC a nearly literal "Black Sheep" of the family, one whose ancestry does not get talked about too much. One that most don't admit to being related to...
