3.5e Planescape - Cold Black Mask OOC Thread

No. The exact wording is "the bonus provided by your inspire courage ability increases by 1". It doesn't say "the inspire courage you initiate after casting this spell". It's a flat increase that, in this case, will last until the inspiration ends 5 rounds after casting the spell.

Obviously the preferred way is to use the spell first, but sometimes that's just not viable.

Arr...in this case, I felt it was a better opening move to use Inspire Courage, since casting a spell might attract attention to her before she could get that going. Not to mention that I doubt this fight will last another 5 rounds.

I guess we'll see. :)

We're now entering the 16th round of this fight; considering that this creature's full plate armor makes it virtually impervious to attack due to the armor as DR optional rule we're using, I could see this fight dragging on for a good while yet unfortunately. :\

BTW Cage-Rattler, I didn't see any mention of István receiving his AoO for the reave attempting an unarmed attack against him in the last (15th) round. An oversight?

Shayuri: A few tweaks to your character sheet, and then I'll post the benefits of joining the Sensates. :)

Firstly; we're using the Armor as Damage Reduction and Vitality and Wound Points optional rules, so those sections on your Character Sheet should be as follows:

Armor: +1 Mithril Shirt = AC +3, 2/- DR (putting your total AC at 15).

Vitality / Wound Points = 30 / 14.

Secondly, your options as a Sensate, s-blocked for the sake of space:
Society of Sensation:
[sblock]

Membership: The Society of Sensation has the easiest of all requirements for entrance into its faction: none. Any being of any race, gender, alignment, or class may join; all a body needs is a genuine desire to experience the multiverse.
To weed out curiosity-seekers, an applicant must complete a simple test: using the Sensorium’s Recorder Stones, she must contribute five worthwhile experiences to the Public Sensorium’s library, each of which focuses on a different sense — Sight, Sound, Smell, Touch, or Taste. Alternatively, a cutter may contribute a single experience that has strong elements from each of the five senses.

Unlike many other factions, the Society encourages its members to follow their own path while seeking new experiences. Sensates looking to move up the faction's ranks regularly return to the Civic Festhall to share their experiences with their fellows.

Abilities:As a Sensate, you're allowed access to the following feats; feel free to switch these out with feats you've chosen at character creation, if you like:

Broad Experiences [General, Sensate]
In their quest to experience everything, Sensates often learn at least a little bit on a broad range of subjects.
Prerequisites: Membership in the Society of Sensation
Benefit: You may use the Bardic Knowledge ability as if you were a bard of half your level. If you already have the bardic knowledge ability, you gain a +4 bonus to it.

Keen Hearing [General, Sensate]
You have developed your sense of hearing far beyond the scope of most.
Prerequisites: Keen Senses, Membership in the Society of Sensation
Benefit: You gain a +2 competence bonus to listen checks, and gain Blindsight 5' as long as you can hear. If someone is attempting to move silently, you must still beat their Move Silently with a Listen check to hear it. You may also identify music with unerring accuracy, and gain a +2 synergy bonus to Perform checks with musical instruments or singing.

Keen Senses [General, Sensate]
You are far more alert than others.
Prerequisites: Membership in the Society of Sensation
Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus to Listen and Spot checks, and they are always class skills for you.
Special: Keen Senses may be used in place of Alertness for any prestige class or feat prerequisites.

Keen Sight [General, Sensate]
You have developed your sight far beyond the scope of most.
Prerequisites: Keen Senses, Membership in the Society of Sensation
Benefit: You gain Darkvision, as described in the PHB.

Keen Smell [General, Sensate]
You have developed your sense of smell far beyond the scope of most.
Prerequisites: Keen Senses, Membership in the Society of Sensation
Benefit: You gain the Scent ability, as described in the DMG.

Keen Taste [General, Sensate]
You have developed your sense of taste far beyond the scope of most.
Prerequisites: Keen Senses, Membership in the Society of Sensation
Benefit: You may identify any potion, poison, or anything else you have previously tasted with 100% accuracy (you may taste only a small drop of poison, so that it does not affect you). This also grants you a +2 bonus to Profession (cooking).

Keen Touch [General, Sensate]
You have developed your sense of touch far beyond the scope of most.
Prerequisites: Keen Senses, Membership in the Society of Sensation
Benefit: You gain an extraordinary sense of touch accurate enough to identify what is written on a piece of paper by tactile contact alone. You also gain Tremorsense, allowing you to pinpoint the location of any moving object within 20' within a few feet of accuracy as long as you and your target are touching the ground.

Sensory Touch [General, Sensate]
You are able to empathically relieve an ally’s pain by sharing some of their burden.
Prerequisites: Membership in the Society of Sensation
Benefit: By touching a wounded ally and opening your mind to their pain, you heal a number of your ally’s hit points equal to your level times four. You, in turn, suffer the same amount as non-lethal damage. You may use this ability multiple times per day as long as you do not exceed your maximum hit points.

*Phew* Second combat is finally done; and it only took 49 days to play through it!

We started this combat back on the 20th of December, last year.
Now maybe István can finally finish his nap. :D

And yeah, Shayuri was right. Though, she could have hardly predicted two consecutive criticals. ;)
