[4e] Would Star Pact Warlocks be Opposed to Psionics?

Hmmm . . .

Psionics a result of the Far Realms. That's just blech. (closest smiley I can find that represents sickness)

If I wrote PHB III, psionics would be a result of the Law of Attraction and the Harvest, boyos.

Napalm was created to clear foliage, but that doesn't mean that someone using it hates trees.

I just want to say that this is the most hilarious thing I've read in a while.

And, obv it's up to your campaign, given that star pact warlocks don't even necessarily know what they've made a bargain with. Even if they have and know their patron is from the Far Realm, they probably don't care about psionics unless the campaign is actively about fighting the Far Realm (and even then they'd be concerned about the campaign direction, not the psionics bit).

agreed.

I am not a specialist or fan of the Far Realm, but aren't mind flayers from there? aren't they psionic too?

and I thought those plant people with the Wolverine hairdo were the world's reaction to the FR

I think Warlocks are more interesting when they got into their pact without fully understanding what they were doing...

In one of my campaigns a little dwarf girl used to spend too much time in the forests outside the family farm... the "little friends" she played with left a mark on her that affected her worldview forever

In another, a dragonborn teen got lost in the caverns near his camp and had a close encounter with what he now calls "the darkness below"... now, strange things happen when he gets angry or scared and has barely learned to control his powers

The thing about tailoring it to the specific game - there's not much that points you in that direction. Imagine if warlocks had an extra Daily at certain levels, and it said, "When you do your patron's bidding..." Then you might see it; as it stands, there's no reason to treat a Warlock's spells as any different from a Wizard's or a Cleric's prayers. (I imagine that would be something like a magic item.)

That sounds like a good use for a custom Boon. Get it at a discount, but it turns off if* you piss off your patron (whether it's a Far Realm beastie, a Duke of Hell or a Fey noble).

*) i.e. "when"

I think it's implied that the Warlock is working against (or at least orthogonal) to the wishes of whatever they're sworn to. Certainly a Hell Pact and a Paladin of Bahamut can be in the same party, right?
I came in here to say pretty much this.

In addition, consider that the Far Realms are nothing like a united front. The entities who reside there may not even comprehend each other's insanely twisted goals, let alone share them. So it's very possible that there exists an entity which desires nothing more than to mess with the (insanely twisted) plans of its brethren, and does so by empowering mortals with Radiant zap beams.

Cheers, -- N

Depends on the DM. If you were playing in my Game, the Mind Flayers wouldn't be from the Far Realms. They'd be from a planet that is like Z'ha'dum.
