I DM a group of male players who all happen to play tough female Characters. Here's art one of them commissioned for their character:

I think that's a very appropriate style for a character. She's still visually attractive, but not in an overtly sexual manner.
Player character art is a bit of a different cup of tea, and should cater to what that specific player wants, as opposed to a diverse selection of art for the whole game. But yes, there's nothing wrong with balancing sexuality and functionality, though it should be a range across art. Not every image should be 50% sexual, 50% functional(that would be boring), but we should be able to come to roughly that when looking at all the art across the edition.
