From what I remember of Ravenloft (been awhile)... the summon should fail.
see pages 41-42 of the setting book.
They gain the Dread Companion template.
Kind of weird - they become "evil" but are not malicious.
They pretty much have no morals and will do what their "master" wants to a fault without any thought to it.
The description says they are like thier master's id in flesh and blood.

I have never agreed with the dread template application. To take a page from the older editions, the summoning works just fine but the mount is likewise trapped in ravenloft. It can not be dismissed.
Further to this if the mount is "called" instead of summoned you could work it in as a native of the demi-plane.
It is easy to get in to Ravenloft and nigh-impossible to get out.
