This is a happy accident of the game design:

Because so many of the people you interact with can level-drain you if they turn hostile, negotiation and character interaction (and humoring psychopaths) actually become super-important. Which matches the Alice In Wonderland theme surprisingly well.

I know the last post was a few years ago but I just found the book and am instantly in love with it. Read the PDF in one day and can not wait for the hard cover to arrive.

I saw that Zak S. recommended running the Kings and Queens as high CR as the game allowed. I decided to start with the Red King and saw the HD was 23. This could mean running him as a CR 23 but I wanted to really beef them up so I will be building him as a CR 30. I don't think he's impossible to kill like this, but I want the PCs to get really creative and pull out all the stops. Also wiping half the party with him is part of the plan. It will make building alliances really important for the PCs as the regicide of the Red King seems like a campaign ending event.
