Acid, Electricity, Fire, or Cold

I am making an Elemental Savant, from the complete arcane. I have to choose one element that is the only element I can use for my spells that have a energy type. I am worried about encounters with immunitys to the type I choose. I am wondering what the best elemental choice would be. If sonic was a choice I would of grabbed it in a heartbeat, But I am getting the power from the realms.

Do you have Frostburn or Sandstorm?
Each has a feat letting you deal damage to resistant (1 energy: Frostburn is cold) enemies.

So I say Cold or Fire if you have those books.

Consult with your DM. If he has an idea where the campaign is likely to go, what sorts of things you are likely to encounter, he can help steer you away from energies that will become fairly useless. For example, if he knows he'll use lots of demons, he can suggest you avoid electricity.

I'd second this one as well - I knew the PCs would be facing lots of L/E foes, so would have steered a PC away from being a fire specialist, as they would be facing devils down the road.

However, I did stymie our acid-oriented elemental savant when I threw some yugoloths at the party once in a N/E side trek... yugoloths are immune to acid.

First, welcome to the boards!

Second, Acid is probably the least resisted element on that list, with Fire being the most resisted.

Third, Electricity is what all the cool people use (Raiden, anyone?).

Fourth, choosing fire anyway could lead to interesting RP opportunities, much like the original Green Lantern couldn't affect objects made of wood, and the next Green Lantern couldn't affect yellow objects. Their weaknesses helped define them.

Theres just one thing you have to remeber. The enemy may be immune to your spell but I don't think they're immune to the prop hanging over them which can be shot down by said spell :3

Example: Tree + Lightning = falling tree

So if you're creative enough you should be able to use your spells in utility type ways, fire is my fave since you can make steam or smoke with it.

This, BTW, is a great example of the kind of thing I was talking about with the Green Lanterns.

When faced with foes who used/dressed in, etc. the substance/color that was their "waterloo," they had to resort to indirect attacks to be effective.

It would depend on how your DM would rule it, but I would consider going electricity and picking up Born of the Three Thunders. It allows you to cast electricity spells as electricity/sonic spells that can stun and knock prone those that they hit. I know DMs that would allow you to apply it to an Elemental Savant, and I've known some DMs that wouldn't. Personally, I don't think it's particularly clear one way or the other. So really it depends on what you are going to be fighting, and how your DM would rule it.
